Abstract: A sprinkler with a push-in connection includes a sprinkler frame, an operating element, and a sealing cap. The sprinkler also includes one or more sealing gaskets and a retainer. Each such sealing gasket is located at least partially within a groove in the sprinkler frame. The retainer is also at least partially located within a groove in the sprinkler frame. The retainer connects to the internal bore of a welded outlet or a mechanical outlet when the sprinkler is installed in the outlet. The one or more gaskets seal against the internal bore of a welded outlet or a mechanical outlet when the sprinkler is installed in the outlet. The retainer is a spring mechanism so that the diameter of the retainer is reduced when the sprinkler is inserted into the internal bore of the outlet, and the retainer maintains pressure against the outlet internal bore.

Abstract: A fire protection nozzle includes a body having two frame arms having proximal ends connected to an outlet of the body, and distal ends, the two frame arms defining a frame arm plane, and a junction formed by the distal ends of the frame arms, the junction including a central bore and a cylindrical outer wall. A circular deflector is mounted to the body, and includes a planar disk having a mounting hole in a center of the planar disk to receive the cylindrical outer wall of the junction, and a plurality of slots on a periphery of the circular planar disk. The plurality of slots includes four radial first slots, four radial second slots, eight radial third slots, and eight fourth slots. The nozzle has a K-factor of at least 28 gpm/(psi)1/2.

Abstract: A fire protection sprinkler includes a sprinkler body having a boss including a circumferential portion having flat edges, and including a cavity on one of the flat edges, a closure element configured to be held in an output orifice to seal a flow of fluid from the output orifice, and a clip. The clip has a first portion that is engaged with the closure element, and a second portion configured to be inserted into the cavity on the one of the flat edges of the circumferential portion of the boss of the sprinkler body, and configured to contact the cavity such that, upon actuation of the fire protection sprinkler, the clip rotates about an axis passing through two points of contact between the cavity and the second portion, and moves the closure element moves away from the sprinkler body to permit the flow of fluid from the output orifice.

Abstract: A flexible dry sprinkler includes an inlet, an inlet seal assembly, and an inlet release unit. A flexible tube has an inlet end and an outlet end, and a flexible linkage extends through the flexible tube, and is connected to the inlet release unit. An outlet release unit is connected to the outlet end of the flexible tube and to an outlet end of the flexible linkage, and displaces the outlet end of the flexible linkage upon activation of the flexible dry fire protection sprinkler. A sprinkler body is connected to the outlet release unit, and has an outlet orifice sealed by an outlet seal assembly until ambient temperature reaches a predetermined temperature. When the ambient temperature reaches the predetermined temperature, displacement of the flexible linkage in an outlet direction causes release of the inlet seal assembly.

Abstract: A flexible dry sprinkler includes a flexible tube having a first end and a second end, an inlet, an inlet seal assembly, and an inlet release unit. An outlet is attached to the second end of the flexible tube, and is sealed by an outlet seal assembly. A flexible linkage extends between the inlet and the outlet through the flexible tube. When the outlet seal assembly is released, the flexible linkage translates from a first position to a second position, and the flexible linkage operates the inlet release unit to release the inlet seal assembly.

Abstract: A cover plate is configured to be releasably connected to a concealed fire protection sprinkler to conceal the fire protection sprinkler. The cover plate includes a first layer of metal on a first side of the cover plate that faces the concealed fire protection sprinkler, and a second layer of metal on a second side of the cover plate, the second side being opposite to the first side. The second layer of metal is more resistant to corrosion than the first layer, and is bonded to the first layer. In addition, the first layer is more thermally conductive than the second layer.

Abstract: A dry sprinkler includes a flexible tube section that maintains a pressurized fluid, such as a liquid antifreeze solution, between a first end and a second end. A first seal prevents fluid from a supply line from entering the flexible tube section. The first seal is maintained in a sealed position by a pressure of the pressurized fluid. A sprinkler head is coupled to the second end of the flexible tube section, and includes a frame, an output orifice, a deflector, a second seal that seals the output orifice, and a thermally responsive element configured to maintain the second seal in a sealed position when the thermally responsive element is in a non-responsive state. A differential pressure controller maintains a ratio between the pressure of the pressurized fluid in the flexible tube section and a pressure of a supply fluid in the supply line to at least a certain ratio.

Abstract: A horizontal sidewall fire protection sprinkler has a deflector having a vertical face, transverse to the fluid flow from the output orifice, and a horizontal shelf positioned above and perpendicular to the vertical face. A portion of the horizontal shelf extends in the fluid flow direction by a first length, with respect to the vertical face, and this first length is less than about half of the total length of the horizontal shelf in the fluid flow direction. The sprinkler may be installed in a support cup having a raised mounting platform configured to receive the sprinkler body and a cylindrical outer surface. A horizontal or pendent fire protection sprinkler has a body having an output orifice and a flange and a seal cap to seal a flow of fluid from the output orifice and a thermally-responsive element positioned to releasably retain the seal cap. Housing members extend through and from the flange of the sprinkler body, and contain rods, each of which extends through the flange. A deflector is connected to ends of the rods.

Abstract: A dry pipe valve is provided which includes a main chamber having an input port for receiving fluid from a supply line and further having an output port. The dry pipe valve further includes a clapper assembly installed in the main chamber for sealing the input port. The clapper assembly includes a clapper configured to seal the input port, where the clapper is hinged to the main chamber. The clapper assembly further includes a hinged lever movable between a first position in which the clapper is held closed by the lever and a second position in which the clapper is allowed to open. The dry pipe valve also includes a pushrod mounted perpendicular to a direction of a main flow through the valve. The pushrod urges the lever against the clapper when the clapper is in the first position. Also included in the dry pipe valve is a pushrod chamber through which the pushrod extends, the pushrod chamber having an inlet that is fluidly connected to an input supply to the valve, and an outlet. The pushrod is in communication with the lever to allow movement of the lever between the first position and the second position. In one aspect, a dry valve actuator is directly attached to a housing of the pushrod chamber and is connected to the outlet of the pushrod chamber. The drive valve actuator is mounted generally perpendicular to the main flow of the valve.

When reached, the outlet seal assembly releases from an outlet orifice of the body, and the outlet biasing portion displaces the linkage, causing the inlet end of the linkage to operate the inlet release unit, releasing the inlet seal assembly from the inlet orifice.
