    摘要: A microfluidic device including at least one microfabricated electrochemical flow cell and method of manufacturing such a device are disclosed herein. The electrochemical cell comprising at least a substrate, wherein the substrate has a front face and a back face; a channel wall bonded to the front face of the substrate without using a spacer, wherein the wall and the substrate define a microchannel having an inlet for receiving a fluid and an outlet for transmitting the fluid; a plurality of electrodes inside the microchannel, wherein said plurality of electrodes comprises one or more working electrodes and one or more counter electrodes, wherein the fluid flows over the surface of the plurality of electrodes and wherein optionally a length of the microchannel over the one or more working electrodes is greater than a height of the microchannel over the one or more working electrodes. Other peripherals may also be included in the microfluidic device of the current invention, including an electrospray ionization (ESI) nozzle, one or more detectors, a chromatographic column, etc. each of which may be microfluidically coupled to the electrochemical flow cells to create more complicated analytic devices.

    摘要: Intraocular retinal prosthesis systems and methods for fabricating the same are provided. In one aspect, fabrication of all or multiple components of a prosthesis device or system are combined into a single monolithic fabrication process. Also, many such entire systems can be fabricated simultaneously in a single microfabrication processing run. A prosthesis device includes a cable region that connects an electrode array region with a power and data management region. The electrode array region includes one or more arrays of exposed electrodes, and the power and data management region includes various power and control elements. The power and data management elements, in one aspect, include an RF coil or coils and circuit arrangements and/or chips configured to provide drive signals to the electrodes via a cable and receive power and signals from the RF coil or coils. Each region includes elements fabricated on or in a single polymer layer during the same fabrication process.

    摘要: A method for processing nanoparticles using a self assembly mechanism. The method includes flowing a first reactant species through a first channel region, which has a predetermined dimension including a first width and a first depth. The method includes flowing a second reactant species through a second channel region, which also has a predetermined dimension including a second width and a second depth. The method includes outputting the first reactant species through a first orifice exiting the first channel region and outputting the second reactant species through a second orifice exiting the second channel region. Additionally, the method forms an interface region along a first predetermined length in a third channel, which couples the first orifice to the second orifice at the interface region. The method contacts one or more of the first reactant species with one or more of the second reactant species at the interface region to form a combined species of the one or more first reactant species and the one or more second reactant species. The method also transfers the combined species of the one or more first reactant and the one or more second reactant species from the first predetermined length to a second predetermined length of the third channel region.

    摘要: A biocompatible, mechanical, micromachined pressure sensor and methods of manufacturing such a pressure sensor are provided. The pressure sensor of the current invention comprises a high-aspect-ratio curved-tube structure fabricated through a one-layer parylene process. The pressure sensor of the current invention requires zero power consumption and indicates the pressure variation by changes of the in situ in-plane motion of the sensor, which can be gauged externally by a direct and convenient optical observation. In one embodiment, the pressure sensor of the current invention has been shown to work as an IOP sensor for eye implantation where the intraocular in-plane motion of the sensor can be recorded from outside of the eye, such that the intraocular pressure in glaucoma patients can be constantly monitored.
