摘要: A half wave dielectric resonator assembly including a resonator cavity having a top surface and a bottom surface, an elongated cylindrical dielectric resonator positioned within said resonator cavity and first and second insulative supports to couple and insulate the ends of the cylindrical dielectric resonator from the resonator cavity. The dielectric resonator has a substantially small diameter to length ratio. The resonator assembly provides improved spurious performance and quality factor (Q) at a lower mass. A resonator filter is constructed using a plurality of these resonator assemblies, where adjacent pairs of said resonator cavities are separated from each other by a common cavity wall. By forming a first iris opening formed within a first common cavity wall and forming a second iris opening formed within a second common cavity wall having a position that is vertically offset from the position of the first iris, it is possible to reduce stray coupling.

摘要: In one embodiment a method for reducing variation in a plurality of scanners is described. The method comprises directing an excitation beam at a calibration standard in each of the plurality of scanners, where one of the plurality of scanners is a designated scanner; detecting emission data for each of the plurality of scanners from a plurality of fluorescent molecules disposed on the calibration standard, where the emission data is responsive to the excitation beam; determining variation in the emission data of one or more of the plurality of scanners based, at least in part, upon the emission data of the designated scanner; and adjusting one or more parameters in one or more of the plurality of scanners based, at least in part, upon the determined variation.

摘要: In one embodiment, a solar cell is fabricated using an ink pattern as a mask for a processing step. The ink pattern may comprise an ink that is substantially devoid of particles that may scratch a surface on which the ink pattern is formed. The ink pattern may be formed by screen printing. In one embodiment, the ink pattern is formed on an oxide layer and comprises an ink that is substantially free of silicon dioxide particles. The ink pattern may be employed as an etching or deposition mask, for example.

摘要: An apparatus is provided for manufacturing a flexible sheet product having liquid absorbent qualities. The apparatus generally includes first and second competing vacuum systems pulling air in substantially opposite directions into first and second oppositely rotating screens, respectively. A molten polymer-based material, which is blown into the first and second competing vacuum systems, is pulled in substantially opposite directions onto the first and second oppositely rotating screens. The liquid polymer-based material fiberizes as it is being pulled apart by the competing vacuum systems creating a web of fibrous material which cures to develop the flexible sheet product having liquid absorbent qualities.

摘要: A process and an apparatus are described for treatment of a gas containing hydrogen sulphide and sulphur dioxide, for example a Claus plant tail gas, in which the gas is brought into contact with an organic solvent (1) e.g. polyethylene glycol 400, containing a catalyst e.g. sodium salicylate, in at least one gas-liquid reactor-contactor (2) and a gas (20) substantially no longer containing hydrogen sulphide and sulphur dioxide is recovered. A single-phase solution (4) of solvent and sulphur is extracted from the reactor-contactor and a portion is cooled in at least one cooling zone (8) to obtain a suspension of sulphur crystals in the solvent, the crystallised sulphur is separated from the solvent in a separation zone (10), the sulphur-depleted solvent (14, 15) is recovered and recycled at least in part to the reactor-contactor (2), and the sulphur (13) is recovered.

摘要: A pretensioner for a vehicle safety restraint, for rapidly reducing slack in a safety restraint belt in the event of a crash situation, the pretensioner comprising a cable (1) connected at one end to a piston (3) at its other end to a belt rewinding mechanism, the piston (3) being slidably moveable in a cylinder (4) under action of pressure from a gas generator (15) sensitive to a crash indicator, wherein means (5) are provided for controlling the rate of acceleration of the cable (1) in the pretensioning direction, in dependence upon the condition of tension in the safety restraint belt which is to be pretensioned. This can be effected by blocking holes in a dividing plate or by using a continuously variable throttle arrangement such as a profiled throttle pin or a hollow space in the piston with a restrictable opening. The invention allows pretensioning forces to be automatically tailored to the requirements at the time of the crash and as a result provides more comfort to the vehicle occupant while maintaining the required strict safety standards.
