摘要： In a projection type image display apparatus, for enlarging an image on a image display apparatus 1 by means of a projection lens 2, thereby projecting the enlarged image onto a screen 6, obliquely, being inclined thereto, between the projection lens 2 and a rear-surface mirror 5, there are disposed free shaped surface mirrors 3 and 4, each having a free shaped surface for compensating a trapezoidal distortion due to oblique projection of the enlarged image. The surface configuration of the free shaped surface mirror is so shaped as to satisfy a following equation: |L1−L2|>1.4·Dv if assuming that a distance for a light beam of an upper end of the enlarged image to reach the screen after being reflected upon a free shaped surface is “L1”, a distance for a light beam of a lower end of the enlarged image to reach the screen after being reflected upon the free shaped surface is “L2”, and a distance from an upper end of an image on the screen to a lower end thereof is “Dv”.

The enlarging projection optical unit, includes a projection lens, a group of lenses which are disposed on a same optical axis, sequentially arranged from a side of the image display element and which include at least one lens having a lens surface, and a reflection mirror having a reflection surface which is disposed between the group of lenses and a display portion. The image display element has a display surface larger than a display surface of the display portion, when an entirety of the image display element is enlargedly projected on the display portion through the enlarging projection optical unit; and the display controller portion enables movement of the image on the display surface of the image display element.

摘要： To eliminate or otherwise reduce non-uniform brightness of an image of a display apparatus, an image is projected through a projection optical system having a projection lens (2), curved surface reflection mirrors (4 and 5), and a reflection mirror (6) onto a rear surface of the rear-surface projection type screen (3). The rear-surface projection type screen includes a Fresnel lens sheet (8), wherein the prism surfaces of the Fresnel lens are formed in an aspheric configuration, thereby letting the light beams from the screen to exit at an exit angle of about zero (0) degree relative to a line perpendicular to the screen surface, over most of the entire surface thereof. It is possible to obtain a projection image that having uniform brightness in an image display apparatus while maintaining a thin cabinet (7) profile.

摘要： A compact rear projection image display apparatus in which the projection distance in a projection optical system is substantially reduced and no reflection mirror is used, thereby eliminating a major cause of image trapezoidal distortion. The rear projection image display apparatus has a projection lens system which includes a first lens group with positive refractive power and a second lens group which further enlarges an image enlarged by the first lens group. The projection lens system enlarges and projects an image displayed on an image display device, on a transmission screen. No reflection mirror is provided between the second lens group and the transmission screen and the image enlarged by the second lens group is directly projected on the transmission screen.
