There are provided a transmitting/receiving apparatus and method for packet data service in a mobile telecommunication system. To determine the transmission format of packet data between a first format and a second format longer than the first format based on at least one channel state value received from a mobile station, received channel state values are sequentially stored. Then, the differences between all adjacent channel state values are calculated and summed. The sum is compared with a predetermined threshold. If the sum is greater than or equal to the predetermined threshold, the transmission format of the packet data is determined as the first format. If the sum is less than the predetermined threshold, the transmission format of the packet data is determined as the second format.

Provided is an apparatus and method for communicating a frame in a multi-hop relay cellular communication system. When communicating at a Relay Station (RS), a Downlink (DL) signal is received from a Base Station (BS) and the received DL signal is reconfigured during a first section of a frame. The reconfigured DL signal is transmitted to a Mobile Station (MS) during a second section of the frame. During a third section of the frame, a UL signal is received from the MS and is reconfigured. The reconfigured UL signal is transmitted to the BS during a fourth section of the frame. The RS recovers data from the BS to retransmit only specific data corresponding to the BS. Accordingly, unnecessary retransmission can be prevented and thus resources can be used efficiently.

Thereafter, upon receiving CQIs corresponding to the determined CQI feedback quantity, being fed back from the K receivers, the transmitter allocates subcarriers for which there are CQIs being fed back from at least one receiver among the K receivers among the N subcarriers, to any one receiver among the receivers that have fed back CQIs according to a first scheme, thereby guaranteeing the maximum throughput and the maximum fairness.
