    摘要: An improved file for use in the endodontic preparation of a root canal, the file having a handle portion at one end and an active working portion tapering toward the distal end, the active portion having an external surface with at least one helical flute forming a helical scraping edge and, preferably, an axially adjacent land, the working portion having areas or zones of reduced surfaces that contact root canal surfaces during use. Preferably the zones are a plurality of axially spaced zones of reduced diameter so that the total length of file working portion in contact with canal wall surfaces during use is reduced. In manufacturing the improved file, a plurality of axially spaced zones of reduced diameter are formed on the working portion of a conventional file, including helical flutes and lands as desired, wherein the file of the invention includes an undulating external working portion profile.

    摘要: An obturator for use in filling an endodontically prepared root canal in a tooth formed as an elongated body having a handle portion and a shaft, the handle portion being configured for grasping by a practitioner whereby the shaft may be inserted into a root canal, the shaft tapering from the handle to the shaft distal end, the shaft having an exterior surface having a generally linear groove therein extending from near the handle to the shaft distal end, or at least adjacent the shaft distal end, the groove providing: (a) a channel for flow of excess filler material as the shaft is positioned into a prepared root canal; (b) increased flexibility of the shaft, and (c) a passageway that will accept a slender, tapered metallic retrieval tool, such as a typical endodontic file, to assist in the removal of the shaft from a root canal.

    摘要: The present invention relates to a novel process for removal of at least a portion of at least one metallic component of a metallic constituent from a multi-phase composite body. Particularly, by providing at least one of an infiltration enhancer or an infiltration enhancer precursor or an infiltrating atmosphere to be in communication with a permeable mass, which contacts at least a portion of a composite body, said metallic component of the composite body, when made molten, is caused to spontaneously infiltrate the permeable mass. Such spontaneous infiltration occurs without the requirement for the application of any pressure or vacuum. The metallic constituent is essentially leached or removed from the multi-phase body by spontaneous infiltration.

    摘要: This invention relates generally to a novel method for removing metal from a formed self-supporting body. A self-supporting body is made by reactively infiltrating a molten parent metal into a bed or mass containing a boron source material and a carbon source material (e.g., boron carbide) and/or a boron source material and a nitrogen source material (e.g., boron nitride) and, optionally, one or more inert fillers. Once the self-supporting body is formed, it is then placed, at least partially, into contact with another material which causes metallic constituent contained in the self-supporting body to be at least partially removed.

    摘要: An appliance for use in filling an endodontically prepared root canal being in the form of an elongated shaft having a distal end portion of diameter dimensioned to be received in a root canal and with a spiral thread thereon and having, at the opposite end, a shank portion, filler material formed on the shaft distal end portion, the shaft shank portion being receivable in the chuck of a dental tool having means to rotate the shaft, the shaft distal end portion having the filler material thereon being insertable in a root canal and adapted to be rotated by a dental tool to auger the filler material off of the shaft distal end portion and into the root canal, the shaft being removed from the root canal as the filler material is augured into the canal.The method of utilizing an apparatus for filling an endodontically prepared root canal includes the steps of forming onto an elongated shaft having a distal end portion of diameter dimensioned to be received in an endodontically prepared root canal and the shaft distal end portion having a spiral thread thereon and having a body of filler material thereon, the shaft having a shank portion, inserting the shank portion into the rotatable chuck of a dental tool, inserting the shaft distal end portion having the filler material thereon into a root canal, and activating the dental tool to rotate the shaft to auger the filler material into the root canal, the shaft being removed from the root canal as the filler material is augered therein.
