摘要： The present invention determines and monitors the connection pattern of data ports which are connected by multiconductor cables. An adapter jacket having an external contact is placed over a standardized cable such as an RJ45 cable which connects the data ports. An adapter board having a plurality of socket contacts is placed adjacent a plurality of data ports. An output and input module are coupled to the socket contacts. A micro-processor which is coupled to the output and input module scans the socket contacts to determine the connection pattern of the data ports.

摘要： A convenience light with a supplemental electrical outlet is provided. In one embodiment, the apparatus includes a housing, a first light source to emit light when the apparatus is coupled to a conventional electrical outlet, and a supplemental electrical outlet having at least the same amount of electrical receptacles as the conventional electrical outlet to which the apparatus is coupled. In another embodiment, the first light source selectively emits light and the apparatus also includes a control device to control when the light source emits light. In yet another embodiment, the supplemental electrical outlet selectively provides access to electrical power associated with the conventional electrical outlet and the apparatus also includes a control device to control when the supplemental electrical outlet provides access to the electrical power.

摘要： The present invention is directed to a system and method for providing care to a patient, comprising a patient care device having a number of configuration databases stored in a memory in the device. Each configuration database preferably includes protocols, operating limits, rule sets and/or operating features that collectively define an operating environment, or personality, of the device. Selection of a specific configuration database preferably is based at least in part upon patient-specific information obtained from any location in a distributed hospital network. Examples of such patient-specific information include patient age or size, patient medical characteristics, a location of the patient or a location of the care device. In a preferred embodiment, programming a patient care device to deliver a drug to a patient entails activating a configuration database and scanning a machine-readable drug label identifying a particular protocol stored in the activated database. The selected protocol includes default parameters for delivering the drug, and the label optionally includes instructions for deviating from the default protocol.

摘要： Electrical receptacles configured to eliminate arc faults rather than merely detect such faults with attendant circuit disconnection, the invention contemplates low-cost, child-safe electrical receptacles useful in residential situations and which can be fitted within the confines of single gang enclosures. The safety receptacles of the invention can be used in all use situations including both residential and industrial applications to increase safe use of electrical receptacles in residential applications in particular and to decrease industrial liabilities. In essence, the safety receptacles of the invention prevent arcing during insertion of a plug into the receptacle, during residence of the plug in the receptacle and during removal of the plug from the receptacle with a substantial load to the receptacle.

The battery checking switch is selectively operated outside of the appliance, while the capacity display is selectively operated in conjunction with the battery checking switch so as to display the battery capacity thereon. A window is formed on the battery receiving room at a position corresponding to the capacity display, thus allowing a user to check the battery capacity outside of the appliance by viewing the capacity display through the window.

摘要： A modular patient care system having a central management unit module and one or more detachable functional units is described. Using unique mechanical and electrical features, the modular patient care system is capable of flexibly, bilaterally, and safely providing electrical power from the central management unit to the attached functional units, with exposed power leads of end units being electrically isolated for safety and security. Functional units are capable of detecting the presence of other functional units more distant from the central management unit for passing power to those units, and for otherwise electrically isolating exposed power leads when no further units are attached. Additionally, the modular patient care system provides for a modular connection arrangement wherein modules are detachably connected to each other in a convenient, flexible, interchangeable, and secure manner by providing a hinge connector pair, a specially located latch mechanism, and a guide means between any pair of modules.

摘要： Safety power outlet connected to a plurality of power lines, including a hot line, and arranged to receive the prongs of a matching multipronged power plug has a receive terminal connected to each power line. The receive terminal is arranged to receive a corresponding prong of the power plug which upon insertion into the terminal operates a switch associated with each terminal. All switches are connected in series, and upon complete insertion of all the prongs, the series connected switches complete a power connection from the hot line to its respective prong, which in turn provides power to the external circuit connected to the power plug.
