    摘要: A mixing head for a reaction injection molding machine, which incorporates several beneficial features, comprises a body having a bore, which defines a mixing chamber, and a plurality of nozzle orifices opening into the mixing chamber for conducting reactive polymeric components thereto. A plunger is mounted for reciprocal movement in the mixing chamber to control flow of the reactive components through the nozzle orifices to form a homogeneous polymer mix, e.g. a polyurethane or polyisocyanurate mix, in the chamber, and serves also to eject the resulting mix from the chamber. The plunger is controlled by an actuator piston and is linked thereto by a universal coupling that minimizes plunger binding in the mixing chamber due to misalignment between the plunger and actuator. The plunger is also sheathed in a sleeve of antifrictional material that permits maintaining a very tight piston fit without excessive friction, and thus resists build-up of reactive material which is a common cause of plunger "freezing" or excess wear. Flow of polymeric components through individual nozzle orifices is regulated by a restrictor valve for each component which includes a packing gland-retainer assembly as well as a position locking arrangement. Accordingly, the restrictor valve may be adjusted without leakage while the mixing head is in operation or while the polymeric composition is under pressure.

    摘要: An improved system for coupling together two objects, particularly sea-going vessels, while permitting relative and at least limited movement in at least three axes -- roll, pitch and yaw -- with a one or more vertical elements mounted on the stern of one towing vessel each coupled to a horizontal element mounted on the bow of a second towed vessel to permit formation of a sea-going barge train pulled by a tug. The horizontal element includes a fluid-tight housing which is mounted for limited lateral movement and which defines an internal chamber in which a piston member and an attached rod move. The rod extends outboard to connect to the vertical element and specifically to one of a pair of concentric vertical members, the other of which is fixedly mounted on the towing vessel. The vertical members move slidably in a vertical direction with respect to each other. The piston of the horizontal element divides the chamber into first and second sub-chambers which are coupled to pneumatic or hydraulic sources which supply fluid or gas to damp piston movement and/or aid in steering. A lateral damping member may be connected to each housing of the horizontal element, particularly when only two couplers are mounted on opposite sides of the vessels. A rigid center coupler flanked by the two piston couplers can be used on larger barges in place of the two side couplers, and also effectively minimizes lateral movement.

    摘要: A cable splice comprises a casing with a tapered bore portion and a tapered jaw cluster therein for gripping the cable. The jaws of the jaw cluster engage a piston that is slidable in a cylindrical bore portion of the casing and also has a central cavity to receive the cable when the latter is installed in the splice. Hydraulic fluid may be introduced into the casing to bias the piston in a direction to cause the jaws to bite into and permanently grip the cable, after which the fluid is withdrawn from the casing.
