Abstract: A device and a method for applying a liquid medium to a roll, and/or to a rolled material, a slab or a roughed strip and/or for removing the liquid medium, wherein the device has at least one spray nozzle, at least one row of spray nozzles or at least one cooling bar for spraying on the medium and at least one plate element, which is designed for collecting the medium. The roll is designed for rolling rolled material, wherein the rolled material, the slab or the roughed strip is conveyed in a conveying direction. In order to allow an improved cooling effect of a roll to be cooled or an improved removal of descaling water, the plate element has on one of its surfaces at least one directing element, which is designed for diverting medium into a transverse direction, which lies horizontally and transversely in relation to the conveying direction.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method and a regulating device for regulating a rolling process, wherein a rolling material is rolled in a rolling gap between two working rollers of a rolling stand. According to the invention, a desired forward slip value (fs) for a forward slip (f) of the rolling material is specified, and an actual forward slip value (fM) of the forward slip (f) of the rolling material is ascertained. The forward slip (f) of the rolling material is regulated to the desired forward slip value (fs) in that a lubricant rate (uR) of a lubricant is applied to the rolling material and/or at least one working roller depending on the actual forward slip value (fM) and the desired forward slip value (fs).

Abstract: A high-strength steel sheet includes a steel structure with: ferrite being 35% to 80%, martensite being 5% to 35%, and tempered martensite being 0% to 5% in terms of area fraction; retained austenite being 8% or more in terms of volume fraction; an average grain size of: the ferrite being 6 μm or less; and the retained austenite being 3 μm or less; a value obtained by dividing an area fraction of blocky austenite by a sum of area fractions of lath-like austenite and the blocky austenite being 0.6 or more; a value obtained by dividing, by mass %, an average Mn content in the retained austenite by an average Mn content in the ferrite being 1.5 or more; and a value obtained by dividing, by mass %, an average C content in the retained austenite by an average C content in the ferrite being 3.0 or more.

Abstract: Described herein are thin metal strips having hot rolled exterior side surfaces characterized as being primarily or substantially free of all prior austenite grain boundaries, or at least primarily or substantially free of all prior austenite grain boundaries, and including elongated surface structure. As a result, because the prior austenite grain boundaries are not primarily or substantially present, all such prior austenite grain boundaries are not susceptible to grain boundary etching due to acid etching or pickling. In particular examples, the thin metal strips undergo hot rolling performed with a coefficient of friction equal to or greater than 0.20 with or without use of lubrication.

Abstract: In a method of cooling a main roll, strength of a shaft and a peripheral portion thereof of the main roll is sufficiently secured, maintenance of the main roll is facilitated, and the shaft and the peripheral portion thereof of the main roll are efficiently cooled. In a method of manufacturing a ring rolled body, a high-quality ring rolled body is produced. The present invention relates to a method of cooing a main roll 1 for ring rolling in a state in which one side, in the rotation axis direction, of the main roll 1 faces upward, and relates to a method of manufacturing a ring rolled body, including the cooling method. In the cooling method, the shaft 11 is cooled by injecting a liquid W into a receiving part 13, 17 which is recessed from an upper end surface 12c of a die 12 of the main roll 1 facing the one side in the rotation axis direction and surrounds the shaft 11 of the main roll 1. In the method of manufacturing a ring rolled body, a ring rolled body is manufactured by heating the die 12 by an induction heating mechanism 6 and cooling the shaft 11 by the cooling method, and further, reducing a ring material M between the main roll 1 and the mandrel 2.

In particular, a viscous material containment system can include a housing, a viscous material delivery system, a plurality of movable seals and a plurality of gas delivery devices. A method for cooling a roll can include applying a vicious material, such as coolant, to the roll and containing the viscous material on the roll using the viscous material containment system. In some cases, the viscous material containment system can be used to facilitate removal of the viscous material from the roll.

Abstract: A method for rolling a product to be rolled (3), wherein the product (3) is fed through a rolling gap (11) between two working rollers (9, 10) of a roll stand (1) and a cooling lubricant is introduced into a contact zone (15, 16), in which a contact surface (17, 18) of the product to be rolled (3) lies against a working roller (9, 10), in order to lubricate the contact zone (15, 16). Furthermore, a lubrication demand of the contact zone (15, 16) is determined in accordance with at least one process parameter of the rolling process and an additional lubricant is applied to the contact surface (17, 18) of the product to be rolled (3) before the rolling gap (11) at a specified application distance (D) if a cooling lubricant amount (C) presently introduced into the contact zone (15, 16) does not cover the lubrication demand. The application distance (D) is sized such that adhesion of the additional lubricant to the contact surface (17, 18) is increased and the lubricating effect in the contact zone (15, 16) is improved in comparison with application immediately before the rolling gap (11). In addition, the lubricant amount (C) introduced into the contact zone (15, 16) is reduced if additional lubricant is applied to the contact surface (17, 18).

Abstract: A rolling mill with oil-cooled top and bottom work rolls at the entry side and a water spray header at the exit side of the bottom work roll. Water cooling is used below the pass line, reducing the heat in the mill substantially without the risk of generating drip-related surface defects during rolling. Water cooling can be used on the bottom work roll and a portion of the oil no longer needed to cool the bottom work roll can be diverted to the top work roll. In some cases, the coolant portion of the flatness control can be operated solely through water-cooling the bottom roll.
