Abstract: A processing system for forming a cross-section of an object. The processing system comprises a focused ion beam system for forming the cross-section from a pre-prepared surface region of the object and a laser and a light optical system for forming the pre-prepared surface region by laser ablation of a processing region of the object with a first and a second laser beam. The light optical system is configured to direct the first and the second laser beams onto common impingement locations of a common scanning line in the processing region for scanning the first laser beam and for scanning the second laser beam. For each of the impingement locations, an angle between a first incidence direction along an axis of the first laser beam and a second incidence direction along an axis of the second laser beam is greater than 10 degrees, measured in a stationary coordinate system.

Abstract: Methods for stripping an optical fiber coating using blue or blue-violet radiation are disclosed. The method includes irradiating a portion of the coating with at least one radiation beam having a processing wavelength in the range of 400 nm to 460 nm for which the coating is substantially transparent. The intensity of the radiation beam exceeds the optical-damage threshold of the coating, and thereby a damaged coating portion that absorbs radiation at the processing wavelength is formed. The damaged coating portion is then irradiated with the radiation beam having an intensity below the optical-damage threshold to cause the damaged coating portion to absorb the radiation and to subsequently heat up and disintegrate to expose a section of the central glass portion of the optical fiber.

Abstract: A laser marker has: a controller configured to oscillate a laser beam; and a head configured to scan a machining surface of a machining target with the laser light. The controller is configured to transmit, to the image processing apparatus, a command for instructing the image processing apparatus to perform a predetermined scene, when the controller is set to cause the image processing apparatus to perform the scene. When the command is received, the image processing apparatus is configured to calculate a deviation amount of the machining target relative to a reference position using image data of an image of the machining target captured by the marker head and to notify the deviation amount to the controller. The controller is configured to correct a position to be scanned with the laser beam based on the deviation amount and then cause the marker head to perform the scanning.

Abstract: A pulley for a continuously variable transmission and a method of creating an engineered surface on an outer surface of a pulley of a continuously variable transmission, with the engineered surface engaging with a belt or chain of the continuously variable transmission. Abstract: Method for fabricating a catheter including providing an inner tubular member formed from a first polymeric material, the inner tubular member having a distal section, a distal end, and a lumen defined therein by a first inner diameter; necking down at least a portion of the distal section of the inner tubular member to form a necked tip having a second inner diameter; and removing a portion of polymeric material from an inner surface along the necked tip to define a third inner diameter for the necked tip. The method can include positioning the distal section of the inner tubular member in a balloon having a working length, a distal neck, and a distal leg, with the distal end of the inner tubular member extending distally beyond a distal end of the distal leg, and coupling the distal leg of the balloon to at least a portion of the distal section of the inner tubular member.
