    Abstract: A self locking chain device for locking a chain to a vehicle comprises an elongated cross bar having an upwardly extending arm attached to each end thereof. Each arm comprises first and second arbors which define a receiving slot for receiving a first interior link of a chain and configured in such a manner to enable two adjacent contiguous links to lock the interior link therein. Both first and second arbors are provided with cusps or projections for limiting passage of the chain link to and from the receiving slot. The first arbor also is provided with a concavity. A second contiguous or selected link, serving as a locking link, is slid over and down the first arbor and to the concavity, thereby double locking the first interior link since the opening between the cusps or projections is less than the combined diameter of the interior link and locking link. In this manner, the device effectively double locks the chain, prohibiting exit of the interior link without first removing the locking link from the first arbor.

    Abstract: A device for aligning the tongue and hitch first portion on a trailer (trailer hitch) with the receiver and hitch second portion (ball) on a towing vehicle, and for lifting the trailer hitch on and off the ball. The device comprises a vertical post on the towing vehicle in front of and in close proximity to the ball. The post has a pivotal arm which can rotate from a vertical position to a rearwardly inclined position. The post has a cable guide at or near its top surface. The pivotal arm also has a cable guide at or near its top surface. The cable guides are for receiving and guiding a cable connected to a winch on the tongue of the trailer. The tongue of the trailer also has a cable guide in front of the winch near the front end of the tongue. The invention has two (2) modes of operation (please refer to FIGS. 1 and 2): 1) on-loading the trailer hitch onto the ball; and, 2) off-loading the trailer hitch from the ball. During on-loading, slack cable from the winch is directed through the tongue cable guide, over the pivotal arm cable guide, over the post cable guide and is connected to a cable hook receiver low on the post. During off-loading, the post cable guide is not utilized and the cable passes from the winch, through the tongue cable guide, over the pivotal arm cable guide and is connected to the cable hook receiver or to the vehicle.

    Abstract: An improved safety chain arrangement for linking a towing vehicle connected with primary towing arrangement to a towed vehicle. The invention assures control of the towed vehicle in the event of failure of the primary towing arrangement. A safety chain of adequate length and strength to meet standard safety regulations has a hook, snap, or other retention means at each end, and passes through a post in the towed vehicle, with each end of the chain connected to the towing vehicle, such as by looping the chain ends through an aperture on the towing vehicle bumper and suitably securing each chain end.     Abstract: An improved system for coupling together two objects, particularly sea-going vessels, while permitting relative and at least limited movement in at least three axes -- roll, pitch and yaw -- with a one or more vertical elements mounted on the stern of one towing vessel each coupled to a horizontal element mounted on the bow of a second towed vessel to permit formation of a sea-going barge train pulled by a tug. The horizontal element includes a fluid-tight housing which is mounted for limited lateral movement and which defines an internal chamber in which a piston member and an attached rod move. The rod extends outboard to connect to the vertical element and specifically to one of a pair of concentric vertical members, the other of which is fixedly mounted on the towing vessel. The vertical members move slidably in a vertical direction with respect to each other. The piston of the horizontal element divides the chamber into first and second sub-chambers which are coupled to pneumatic or hydraulic sources which supply fluid or gas to damp piston movement and/or aid in steering. A lateral damping member may be connected to each housing of the horizontal element, particularly when only two couplers are mounted on opposite sides of the vessels. A rigid center coupler flanked by the two piston couplers can be used on larger barges in place of the two side couplers, and also effectively minimizes lateral movement.
