    摘要: Apparatus and methods for penetrating a downhole target within a wellbore include providing a body with a longitudinal axis, a first end, and a second end into a wellbore, the body having a nozzle at the first end. The nozzle is adapted to project a medium in a direction generally parallel to the longitudinal axis to affect a downhole target. An actuator in communication with the medium is usable to initiate the apparatus. The nozzle can be provided with a geometry configured for projecting the medium in a pattern that separates the downhole target into at least two portions. The medium can include a ferromagnetic material that becomes associated with the downhole target to facilitate recovery of the target or portions thereof using a retrieval device having a magnetic element.

The tool further includes a generally cylindrical upper housing with a central channel with laterally directed curl flow forming nozzles through the cylindrical wall of the upper housing, the nozzles leading out into one or more helical grooves between helical ridges, the magnet including permanent magnets arranged in a magnetization pattern which concentrates their combined magnetic flux through the downwards facing surface, the upper housing's vertical channel extending near its lower end to peripherally directed channels extending to an outer wall of the lower housing about the magnets and leading to axially directed peripheral nose ports at a peripheral lower end of the lower housing and arranged for flushing fluid ahead of the magnet, the central channel provided with a vertically displaceable cylindrical flow control sleeve which is provided with a closing seat near its lower end so as for receiving a ball for shutting off the flow to the nose ports and redirecting the flow through apertures in the wall of the sleeve to the curl flow forming nozzles.

    摘要: Systems and methods for magic angle spinning nuclear magnetic resonance analysis of samples from unconventional reservoirs are described. Fast and inexpensive methods are described that can provide reliable information on TOC content, type, and maturity (via the relative abundances of different hydrocarbons, for example) without the need for more extensive sample preparation or destruction. If care is taken during sample recovery and storage, NMR can also yield an estimate of gas-in-place, including detailed typing (e.g. methane vs. ethane). The described MAS NMR analysis is used to determine various properties of unconventional reservoirs, including gas and oil shales, which are useful in evaluating their worth and producibility.

An injection valve for use in a subterranean well can include a sensor which detects a magnetic field, and an actuator which opens the injection valve in response to detection of at least one predetermined magnetic signal by the sensor.

    摘要: A casing string in a wellbore has conductive tubulars and modified conductivity (MC) or non-conductive tubulars joined to one another. A MC/non-conductive tubular may be disposed between two conductive tubulars. If there are at least two MC/non-conductive tubulars and at least three conductive tubulars, two of the MC/non-conductive tubulars may be alternately disposed between three of the conductive tubulars. The MC/non-conductive tubulars may be formed from materials such as stainless steel, fiber-reinforced thermal sets, and thermal plastics. One such thermal plastic is polyetheretherketone (PEEK) and it may be glass-reinforced. The conductive tubulars, if electrically isolated, may be used as electrodes to transmit or receive electromagnetic signals. The casing string may used for borehole to surface applications, surface to borehole applications, borehole to borehole applications, or single well applications. The casing string may also have downhole sensors, uphole sensors, and surface sensors. Those sensors may be transmitters or receivers.
