Abstract: Wood chipping apparatus including a removable wood chipping cartridge in the form of a hollow drum having axial extending wood chipping knives positioned adjacent to wood chip receiving apertures in the drum. The drum is removably connected, at one end, to the end of a drive shaft, whereby the drum is supported in a cantilever fashion. Abstract: Chipping apparatus, for use in the production of wood chips for the preparation of paper making pulp, includes a rotor carrying multiple knives arranged in a right angled step pattern and a stationary anvil having a complementary stepped periphery. The rotor is of special construction incorporating land segments associated with the respective knives and of such spiral configuration with respect to the direction of feeding movement of the wood as to minimize the gaps between the rotor and anvil as each knife passes the anvil and also to serve as a means for limiting the extent of projection of the feed beyond the anvil and hence the maximum length of each chip to be cut. This chipping apparatus is accordingly especially suitable for use as a rechipper of oversized chips and for the chipping of waste wood of all types.

Abstract: The drum of a wood-comminuting machine is formed with an axially extending slot having, relative to the rotation direction of the drum, a leading flank and a trailing flank. A flat blade is clamped against the front flank of the slot by at least one wedge having converging flanks which are biased in the direction of taper by a spring. Two such wedges can be provided, one carrying the blade and the other urged outwardly by the spring to wedge the blade-carrying wedge against the back of the blade. The blade carrier is either pivoted on the drum or otherwise engaged with the drum so that it cannot move outwardly relative to the drum. In front of the blade there are formed chip pockets or concavities, which can be defined by a support member secured to the drum and forming the leading flank of the slot.

Abstract: Apparatus for reducing material such as limbs, branches, brush and the like to chips wherein a reversible powered feed mechanism moves the material in a longitudinal feed path to a statically balanced, rotary chipping mechanism having a chipping disc mounting only a single, generally radially disposed, chipping knife which is angularly disposed relative to the feed path to draw the material forwardly. Abstract: The present specification discloses a tool head for use in machining round timber trunks to produce beams or planks. The tool head includes a tool holder which is arranged concentrically and coaxially of the tool head, the tool holder and tool head being independently rotatably drivable about their common axis, the tool holder being drivable at a higher rotational speed than the tool head. Chipping blades are provided on the periphery of the tool head and finishing blades are provided on the working end of the tool holder. Abstract: A rotating chipping drum is mounted in a hollow body with a portion of its periphery exposed to a chipping chamber for holding log sections to be chipped. Cutting bits are mounted in apertures of the chipping drum so that chips cut from the log section enter the interior of the drum.
