    摘要： Apparatus for tightening and releasing one of the clamping nuts which act to maintain a pre-established pressure-tight sealing of a flanged reactor pressure vessel, the bolts for which clamping nuts are held and pretensioned in the flange of the vessel. The clamping nut has teeth and is turned on its bolt, via a reduction gearing cooperating with the teeth, by a three phase motor whose rotor has the smallest number of poles for a small moment of inertia and a high speed of rotation. A connecting lead for the motor has a current sensor disposed in one phase thereof, and a triac contactor responsive to an output signal from the current sensor and arranged to open-circuit the connection lead when the sensed current exceeds a predetermined threshold at a limit position of the nut. The apparatus also includes an override means which acts to prevent the motor being automatically switched off in response to start-up current during a preselected period from switch-on of the motor. The nut is not overtightened, since the stored energy in the rotating masses is low, and can be readily released by the apparatus.

    摘要： An improved liquid-metal dip seal for sealing the annulus between rotating plugs in the reactor vessel head of a liquid-metal fast-breeder nuclear reactor has two legs of differing widths communicating under a seal blade; the wide leg is also in communication with cover gas of the reactor and the narrow leg is also in communication with an isolated plug annulus above the seal. The annulus contains inert gas which acts as a pneumatic spring. Upon increasing cover gas pressure which depresses the level in the wide leg and greatly increases the level in the narrow leg, the pneumatic spring is compressed, and resists further level changes, thus preventing radioactive cover gas from bubbling through the seal.

The cover has a safety feature of being tightly locked so that the cover cannot be easily or accidently removed.

The diaphragm has an internal groove which uses strong spring back and the pressure of the fluid to increase the gasket seating load, thereby providing a self-energizing seal which can accommodate changes in gasket load due to changes in fluid pressure. In one embodiment, a ring is shrink-fit or press-fit about the outer side edge of the diaphragm which improves strength and reduces the material cost.
