摘要: A bone anchor based retractor/distractor assembly for simultaneous tissue retraction and disc space distraction utilizing an adjustable, flexible wire to secure the bone anchors during the distraction process. The assembly includes first and second modular retractor/distractor blades that can be detached for securing to the bone anchor. Each blade has a pivot pin and blade connector with a rotatable knob for adjusting of a wire releasably securable to a bone anchor. The blade connectors are attached to the first and second arm elements, each having a stabilizing arm that is movable in relation to each other by a threaded draw rod having an adjustment knob for activating movement. A main body is secured to a medial retraction blade by an arm having a gear member operatively associated with a gear knob for incremental movement of the medial retraction blade.

摘要: An intervertebral insert member and an instrument for positioning the insert in a space between vertebral bodies in vivo. The insert member is advanced by the instrument into a prepared site located between adjacent vertebral bodies. Upon reaching the appropriate insertion point, the sleeve is retracted and a pivotal motion is imparted to the insert. The insert member is pivotally attached to the distal end of the delivery instrument such that it can be articulated about a pivot point that is located on the insert member until it is properly positioned. The positioning instrument is then released from the insert member and removed from the space between the vertebral bodies. An adjustment screw is available to expand the surfaces of the insert member by displacement of a wedge member within the insert.

摘要: A spinal implant for insertion between adjacent vertebrae to function as a disc prosthesis. The prosthesis is formed from two plates fastened to adjacent vertebrae facing each other. The facing sides of the plates have a donut shaped cushioning coupler to replicate the displaced disc material. Stabilizing links are positioned along the edge of the plates to prevent over compression of the shaped cushioning coupler in a bending moment. Adjustable mounting brackets are used to secure the implant to the spine.

摘要: A spinal implant for insertion between adjacent vertebrae for promoting fusion of the vertebrae is a wedge shaped body with upper and lower plates separated by pyramidal sides with one large end and one small end enclosing the body. The upper and lower plates have elongated openings oriented perpendicularly to each other to form an internal labyrinth. The upper and lower openings are to be filled with thin layers of bone graft material to promote rapid ingrowth of living tissue.

摘要: A bone plate for use in anterior lumbar spinal fixation has interlocking components to prevent dislodgement of the plate due to anatomical forces. The exposed surface of the plate is smooth to prevent trauma to internal body tissue. The plate spans the intervertebral space with each end attached to an adjacent vertebrae by locking screws threadably engaged with tubular bone anchors. The bone anchors are threaded into the vertebrae and have a reduced diameter leading end which the locking screws expand to lock the anchor in the vertebrae and secure the end of the locking screw in the anchor. The plate has a countersunk cavity including portions overlapping the locking screws. A locking cap fits in the cavity to secure the other end of the locking screws from backing-out of the plate.
