    摘要: This invention provides a shade umbrella which is tiltable about a horizontal axis and which can be rotated about a vertical axis. A resiliently placed cam button protrudes through an opening adjacent each end of two annularly mated shaft portions supporting the umbrella. The button can be manually depressed to release the outer shaft, permitting removal of the umbrella or rotation for shaft control. A plurality of openings around the circumference of the outer shaft permits indexing of the shade control and the outer surface of the cam button is so shaped as to permit easy interconnection of the two shaft portions and secure locking thereof together.

    摘要: An umbrella support construction stably supports a heavy umbrella such as a garden umbrella. The support construction includes a base having a through bore with a top and a bottom opening. An insert is provided which is sized to be received in the through bore. The insert includes a central opening for receiving the pole of an umbrella and small through holes which are capable of receiving screws. The screws can be tightened to bear against the umbrella pole to retain same in the insert. Complementary formed shoulders are provided on the insert and the base which prevent removal of the insert through the top opening of the through bore.

    摘要: A wind-up mechanism for a tiltable umbrella is mounted on the umbrella pole for opening the umbrella and then tilting same in response to the winding of respective first and second portions of the same flexible cable. The wind-up mechanism comprises a rotatable wind-up shaft and a wind-up spool connected to the cable and rotatable in response to the rotation of the shaft. The spool comprises first and second axial sections of unequal diameters, with the first axial section being relatively larger for winding the first portion of the cable and the second axial section for winding the second portion of the cable, whereby the wind-up mechanism opens the umbrella at a relatively higher speed than during tilting.

    摘要: A hollow tube constitutes a structural member having an opening in a wall thereof which surrounds a short hollow sleeve closely fitting within the tubular member, the sleeve having diametrically opposed openings one of which is of the size and shape of the opening in the tube wall. The margin of one of the openings in the sleeve is shouldered inwardly. The sleeve is so positioned within the tube that the openings are aligned, the shouldered opening of the sleeve being diametrically opposed to the aligned openings in the tube and sleeve. A hollow tubular bracing cross-member is provided of such dimension as to pass through, with minimum clearance, the aligned openings in the tube and sleeve, the free end of the cross member being received within the diametrically-located opening in the sleeve and resting upon the shoulder thereof. Means are provided to lock the bracing cross member removably within and to the tube and sleeve.
