摘要: A circuit breaker and method of operation. The circuit breaker includes a first current path including a mechanical switch, such as an ultrafast mechanical switch, and a second current path in parallel connection to the first current path, and including a current injector, such as a transient commutation current injection circuit, in series with bidirectional power electronic switch. A short circuit fault current from a mechanical switch path is communicated to the electronic path via a current injection, followed by interrupting the fault current. A pulse current is generated to the electronic switch in the second current path, and the mechanical switch is opened during the pulse current. The pulse current and the electronic switch reduce or eliminate arcing upon the opening the mechanical switch.

摘要: A wireless-controlled smart plug device and methods of use and operation, using a solid state switch to provide electrical power from an outlet to a load, and provide protection against overload, short circuit, ground, arc, or voltage surge faults. The switch includes a bidirectional semiconductor switch with two back-to-back connected transistors, such as silicon power MOSFETs, silicon insulated-gate bipolar transistors (IGBTs), silicon carbide (SiC) transistors, or gallium nitride (GaN) transistors, each configured to control the current flow from the electrical receptacle to the external electrical load.

摘要: A microfluidic device and method of use. A porous membrane is disposed between a top layer and a bottom layer, wherein the membrane separates, and is porous between, a first micrometer channel from a second micrometer channel. The first micrometer channel is etched in the top layer and the second micrometer channel is etched in the bottom layer each having a height of about 1 to 100 micrometers. The porous membrane can be a collagen membrane, and supports a cell culture.

摘要: A method in a data processing system and apparatus for organizing files, data items, web site members, or web pages, structured or unstructured, of multiple users stored across one or more server computers into hierarchical file structures on a recordable medium of a data processing system. A user-defined metalabel is assigned to each of the electronic files, data items, web site members, or web pages. The electronic files, data items, web site members, or web pages are organized as a function of the metalabels into the hierarchical file structures. The method includes automatically forming personalized hierarchies, such as a shadow copy for a second user, from the user-defined metalabels of a first user according to a user profile. The method includes automatically forming keywords of strings of at least two user-defined metalabels or a portion thereof, and automatically forming search structures of the keywords existing simultaneously with the plurality of hierarchical structures.

摘要: A method and apparatus, such as implemented by software code on a mobile device, to estimate a location and a traveling distance by leveraging lower-power inertial sensors embedded in the mobile device as a supplement to the device's GPS. To minimize the negative impact of sensor noises, the invention exploits intermittent strong GPS signals and uses linear regression to build a prediction model which is based on a trace estimated from inertial sensors and the one computed from the GPS. Additionally or alternatively, the invention can utilize landmarks (e.g., bridges, traffic lights, etc.) detected automatically and/or special driving patterns (e.g., turning, uphill, and downhill) from inertial sensory data to improve the localization accuracy when the GPS signal is weak.
