Abstract:
Improved sealants and adhesives derived from polyisocyanates having aromatically linked -NCO groups are cured at ambient temperatures when combined with a curing agent comprising an imino- and enamino-functional compound. These two component resin systems may be employed in fabricating multi-substrate laminates, especially those comprising lignocellulosic and cellulosic materials, such as wood and paper.
Abstract:
A glass facade for a building comprises a support profile arrangement mounted on an outer surface of a building to form a facade substructure, and glass panes forming an outer surface of the facade and adhesively bonded to the support profile arrangement. Adjacently disposed ones of the glass panes include beveled edges which form joints. Anchoring bodies positively secure the glass panes to the support profile arrangement. The anchoring bodies grip the beveled edges of the glass panes and are releasably joined to said support profile arrangement. The anchoring bodies comprise cross-shaped anchoring crosses set into the intersection of four of the joints. Each anchoring cross includes a bushing extending substantially the entire depth of the anchoring cross. A screw extends into a countersunk hole formed in the bushing to secure the anchoring cross to the support profile arrangement.
Abstract:
Separate electrical timing and load activation devices are provided for each of plural electrical loads and each device is connected to receive reference timing signals from a central unit. Each of the separate timing and load activation devices measures a reference time interval accurately defined by the reference timing signals and subsequently activates its associated electrical load after a respectively corresponding predetermined time delay which is determined as a function of the locally measured reference time interval.
Abstract:
The invention comprises (a) an improved cross wound yarn package on which the final few turns of yarn are wound as a compact pile wound bunch on the cylindrical cross wound package surface; (b) apparatus for winding such a package, comprising a fixed pile winding guide (4 in FIG. 3) as well as a traverse guide (1 in FIG. 3) and means effective to move the yarn from one to the other (5 in FIG. 3); and (c) a modified yarn traverse roll with an extra circumferential groove to aid pile winding (2 in FIG. 1) intersecting a helical traverse groove (1 in FIG. 1).
Abstract:
A system for operating a hydraulic tool is disclosed in which heated hydraulic fluid being returned to a fluid reservoir from the tool is cooled by a refrigeration system. The heated hydraulic fluid is introduced into the hollow interior of a distributor from which the fluid exits through a plurality of orifices in a planar side in the form of plural sprays directed onto adjacent portions of a coil carrying evaporating refrigerant. The sprays flow over the coil to effect substantial transfer of heat from the hydraulic fluid to the refrigerant, with the cooled hydraulic fluid being stored in the reservoir prior to being pumped to the hydraulic tool as needed.
Abstract:
Olefins are converted to nitriles by reacting with hydrogen cyanide in the presence of an organic thiol or sulphide and a catalytic amount of a cuprous salt which is soluble therein; especially for making 3-pentene nitrile from butadiene.
Abstract:
Matt coated drafting films are treated with polymeric copolymer anti-static materials such as a copolymer of trimethyl- Beta methacryloyl-oxyethyl ammonium chloride with styrene.
Abstract:
A method of combating fungi which comprises contacting the fungi or loci thereof with a fungicidally effective amount of a quinoxaline derivative of the formula:
OR A SALT THEREOF WHEREIN R is selected from the group consisting of SO2X, SOX and SX where X contains from 1 to 7 carbon atoms and is selected from the group consisting of unsubstituted alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, aryl, alkaryl and aralkyl; or alkyl containing 1-7 carbon atoms substituted with halogen, carboxy, ethoxy carbonyl or thiocyano.
Abstract:
This invention relates to a process for the manufacture of polyamides and polyamide foams, particularly the production of foams in a polymerizing lactam mixture comprising forming a mixture of (1) a lactam having at least seven ring members which is associated with 0.01 to 0.5% by weight of water, (2) an alkali metal salt of azodicarboxylic acid, wherein the metal salt of azodicarboxylic acid is present in an amount at least equimolar with the amount of water present, and polymerizing said lactam under anionic polymerization conditions, whereby said metal salt of azodicarboxylic acid enables polymerization to take place even though said lactam is initially associated with a considerable amount of water.
Abstract:
A polymer prepared by the addition polymerisation of an alkyl styrene is dissolved in a liquid hydrocarbon fuel which has a flash point of at least 90*F and is of a type suitable for gas turbine aircraft engines in order to reduce the tendency of the fuel to particulate dissemination when the fuel is subjected to shock. Preferred polymers are the non-polar homopolymers or copolymers of alkyl styrenes in which the alkyl group contains from 3 to 20, and more preferably from 3 to 8, carbon atoms. The polymer used has a viscosity average molecular weight greater than 106 or an intrinsic viscosity greater than 2.5 dls./gm. and the amount of polymer is such that there is molecular overlap of polymer molecules in the liquid.
