    摘要: A method of operating a four-stroke internal combustion engine of the carburator or fuel injection type, with one or several reciprocating pistons or one or several rotary pistons wherein during the intake movement of the one or the several pistons an additional gaseous or liquid or gas-liquid mixture fluid is introduced into the cylinder working space through a cylinder side wall aperture in the vicinity of the piston to establish a layer charge overlying the piston. The introduction of this fluid may be effected by suction effects caused by the piston movement. The amount of fluid supplied may be controlled in dependence upon combustion pressure and/or exhaust gas composition. The internal combustion engine includes an aperture in a cylinder wall in communication with a fluid source whereby this aperture is adapted to be obstructed or exposed by the moving piston to control the admission of the additional fluid. Between the aperture and the fluid source may be provided control valve means.

    摘要: An internal combustion engine having a cylinder block comprising one cylinder or a plurality of cylinders, a piston reciprocable in each cylinder, a crank shaft, a cylinder head with inlet and exhaust valves, inlet and exhaust conduits, an ignition or injection device and valve timing means operatively associated with the cylinder head, fuel supply means in communication with the engine intake side, a feed line for supplying a pressurized or ambient air pressure additional fluid such as a gaseous or a liquid fluid to the cylinders of the engine toward a location upstream of the inlet valve seat(s). The feed line outlet may be formed as a Venturi tube. The feed lines and portions of the intake and exhaust conduits may be incorporated into an intermediate flange member adapted to be mounted on the engine block intermediate the intake/exhaust conduits and respective associated intake/exhaust manifolds. The feed lines may include non-return valve means. The additional fluid may comprise air, starter gas or an emulsion made up of drilling oil and water.

The working space of every cylinder is connected by a bore with a feed line including a valve for introducing into the cylinder during a piston suction stroke an additional fluid such as air or a liquid. The bore/valve assembly may be provided at the cylinder head and/or at the lateral wall of a cylinder. The valve includes a valve chamber of a relatively large cross-sectional area. In the valve chamber is movably guided a valve member for establishing or blocking communication between the valve chamber and the cylinder working space in dependence upon the pressure within the cylinder.
