    摘要: A method for optimising an energy-absorbing strap includes the steps of: (1) producing a single metal sheet, including a first connecting portion, for connecting to one of a support bracket and a fixed part of a vehicle, and a second connecting portion, for connecting to the other of the support bracket and the fixed part of the vehicle; and (2) producing a weakening in the single metal sheet to separate the first connecting portion from a tearable portion; bending a portion of the single metal sheet to produce a bent portion that interconnects the second connecting portion and the tearable portion, the second portion being bent back around in relation to the tearable portion; wherein the steps are selected to produce a desired energy-absorbance profile.

The worm gear may be rotationally fixed to the rotor and engages the wheel gear to transfer torque from the motor to the output shaft. The key lock may include an adapter, an annular outer part, a web, and a locking collar. The key lock may be fixed to the housing and is movable between an extended position in which a part of the key lock engages the locking collar and a retracted position in which the part is held clear of the locking collar.

    摘要: A steer by wire steering column assembly for a vehicle comprises a shroud having a first shroud portion and a second shroud portion, the two shroud portions being constrained to move telescopically relative to one another for adjustment of a reach position of the steering column assembly; a shaft supported by one or more bearing assemblies housed within the shroud and adapted for supporting a handwheel or another user operable device at a free end; and a linear actuator that includes an elongate threaded rod that is connected at a first location to one of the shroud portions by a first bracket assembly and at a second location to the other shroud portion by a second bracket assembly, the linear actuator controlling the telescopic position of the shroud by causing the threaded rod to rotate around its axis. At least one of the bracket assemblies is adapted to provide a degree of lost motion between the linear actuator and the associated shroud portion that accommodates misalignment of the two shroud portions during use of the steering column assembly that would otherwise apply a bending moment to the linear actuator.

    摘要: According to a first aspect there is provided a steering column assembly comprising: a steering column shroud, and a mounting bracket. The steering column shroud surrounds a steering shaft connected to a steering wheel, a steering wheel defining a plane disposed orthogonally to a longitudinal axis of a steering column. The mounting bracket is fixed in position relative to a part of a vehicle and comprises two depending bracket arms extending away from a main body. At least one bracket arm is configured to form a connection with a portion of the column shroud. The main body further has at least one connection point arranged on opposing sides of the steering shaft for connecting the mounting bracket to the vehicle. At least one main body connection point on one side of the steering shaft is disposed an unequal distance from the plane defined by the steering wheel than any of the main body connection points on the opposing side of the steering shaft.

    摘要: A gearbox assembly for power take off from an electric motor of an electric power assisted steering apparatus comprising a gearbox housing which houses a worm shaft and a gear wheel, is disclosed. The worm shaft incorporates one or more external helical worm teeth. A main bearing assembly supports the worm shaft at an end closest to the motor. A tail bearing assembly supports the worm shaft at an end furthest from the motor, in which at least the tail bearing assembly is free to move relative to the housing through a limited range of motion that enables the worm shaft to move radially away from the axis of the wheel gear. The gearbox assembly further comprises a flexible coupler which connects the worm shaft at the main bearing end to a power take off from the motor so as to transfer torque from the motor to the worm shaft. The flexible coupler comprises a first hub part providing a connection to the worm shaft, a second hub part providing a connection to the power take off from the motor, and a flexible membrane that connects the first hub part to the second hub part. The flexible membrane provides a primary path for the transfer of torque from the first hub part to the second hub part.
