Abstract: A control method and system for operating an electrical component from an electrical distribution network maximises the advantage to be gained from the component simultaneously following two power-consumption strategies. The first strategy D(t) is relatively slow-moving, for example increasing consumption when electricity prices are lower, whereas the second F(t) requires fast-moving adjustments, for example when providing a frequency responsive service to counter network power imbalances. The method involves operating the component to follow a strategy with the fast-moving function F(t) superimposed on a baseline power function B(t), with B(t) derived from the slow-moving function D(t). In applying the invention to a binary component (i.e. one that is either “off” or “on”) that is providing the responsive service as part of a group of such components, B(t) is derived both from D(t) and also from past values of F(t). The effect of F(t) is mitigated by determining the value of B(t) for each of a sequence of subintervals by a method that takes into account its contribution to power consumption in all previous subintervals.

Abstract: Vias may be established in printed circuit boards or similar structures and filled with a monolithic metal body to promote heat transfer. Metal nanoparticle paste compositions, such as copper nanoparticle paste compositions, may provide a ready avenue for filling the vias and consolidating the metal nanoparticles under mild conditions to form each monolithic metal body. The monolithic metal body within each via can be placed in thermal contact with one or more heat sinks to promote heat transfer. Adherence of the monolithic metal bodies within the vias may be promoted by a coating upon the walls of the vias. A tin coating, for example, may be particularly suitable for promoting adherence of a monolithic metal body comprising copper.

Abstract: A method of copper electroplating in the manufacture of printed circuit boards. The method is used for filling through-holes and micro-vias with copper. The method includes the steps of: (1) preparing an electronic substrate to receive copper electroplating thereon; (2) forming at least one of one or more through-holes and/or one or more micro-vias in the electronic substrate; and (3) electroplating copper in the at one or more through-holes and/or one or more micro-vias by contacting the electronic substrate with an acid copper electroplating solution. The acid copper plating solution comprises a source of copper ions; sulfuric acid; a source of chloride ions; a brightener; a wetter; and a leveler. The acid copper electroplating solution plates the one or more through-holes and/or the one or more micro-vias until metallization is complete.

Abstract: The present invention includes pleated paper and planar paper coated with a fire suppressive ink, wherein the pleated paper is Kraft paper with a weight of 25 to 50 pounds, with pleat angles of about 88 to 92°, and pleat heights between approximately 3/32 of an inch and ⅛ of an inch, and the planar paper is Kraft paper with a weight of 40 to 60 pounds. The fire suppressive ink is preferably applied with a flexographic printing process and preferably comprises at least one inorganic fusible salt and an organic resin. The inventive pleated paper is an environmentally friendly packaging material with improved protective qualities, which can also shield items from fire, contain fires, and suppress fires to avoid thermal runaway. The inventive paper is particularly useful for packaging and shipping flammable items, such as lithium-ion batteries.
