    摘要: One embodiment is a stimulation lead including a lead body comprising a longitudinal surface, a distal end, and a proximal end; and multiple electrodes disposed along the longitudinal surface of the lead body near the distal end of the lead body. The multiple electrodes include multiple segmented electrodes. At least a first portion of the lead body, proximal to the electrodes, is transparent or translucent and at least a second portion of the lead body, separating two or more of the segmented electrodes, is opaque so that the segmented electrodes separated by the second portion of the lead body are visually distinct. Alternatively or additionally, the stimulation lead can include an indicator ring, a stripe, a groove, or a marking aligned with one or more of the segmented electrodes.

    摘要: A method of operating a neurostimulation device comprises varying a first stimulation parameter under user control while fixing a second stimulation parameter, generating a plurality of stimulation parameter sets from the varied first stimulation parameter and the fixed second stimulation parameter, outputting a pulsed electrical waveform from the neurostimulation device between electrodes in accordance with the stimulation parameter sets, such that a therapeutic effect is achieved while allowing neural tissue to undergo neurological accommodation, changing the second stimulation parameter, varying the first stimulation parameter under user control while fixing the second changed stimulation parameter, generating another plurality of stimulation parameter sets from the varied first stimulation parameter and the fixed changed second stimulation parameter, and outputting the pulsed electrical waveform from the neurostimulation device between the electrodes in accordance with the other stimulation parameter sets to maintain the therapeutic effect while the neural tissue is neurologically accommodated.

    摘要: A burr hole sealing device for preventing brain shift during a stimulation lead implantation procedure is provided. The device includes a suction cup ring and a self-sealing membrane positioned within the aperture of the ring. The sealing device is attached adjacent to a burr hole and over a dura layer that is exposed in the bottom of the burr hole. The stimulation lead is disposed through the burr hole, through the membrane, through the dura layer and into brain tissue. The membrane is configured to allow the lead to pass therethrough while maintaining a tight seal around the diameter of the lead, thereby hindering leakage of cerebrospinal fluid out of the cranial cavity and maintaining a substantially fixed intracranial pressure. In one embodiment, the sealing device includes a syringe for adding fluid to, or removing fluid from, the cranial cavity in response to a detected change in intracranial pressure.

    摘要: Improved external chargers for charging an implantable medical device, and particularly useful in charging a plurality of such devices, are disclosed. Each of the various embodiments include design elements for mechanically manipulating the position of one or more charging coils within the external charger to customize the magnetic charging field as appropriate for the charger/implantable device environment. For example, a single charging coil may be moved within a housing of the external charger to direct the charging field of the coil towards the currently “coldest” implant, i.e., the implant with the lowest coupling to the external charger. The one or more charging coils may be mechanically manipulated within the external charger housing in a number of ways, including by using linear actuators, by inflatable bladders, or even by hand.
