摘要:
A tool-less grouping apparatus has a main body with a top portion and a bottom portion. Dividing members extending between the top and bottom portions make openings for fiber optic connectors. Forward facing surfaces may be on both the top and bottom portions to engage the fiber optic connectors. The portions also have cut-outs that can engage the fiber optic connectors to assist in removing the fiber optic connectors from adapters.

A unitary fiber optic ferrule reflects light off an interior lens and through the fiber optic ferrule. Optical fibers can be easily secured in the unitary fiber optic ferrule. An adapter to secure the unitary fiber optic ferrule to a optical component assembly is also presented. The adapter provides a sealing function for the lenses and to provide routing for optical fibers from other assemblies of unitary fiber optic ferrules and adapters.

A sleeve has a handle and extensions to engage a fiber optic connector for insertion into and removal from high density adapters. The sleeve may have multiple connectors installed in a single sleeve and it may be removable. The sleeve has first and second extensions to engage the inner and outer housings, respectively, to insert and remove the fiber optic connector from an adapter.

A calibration assembly has a base and mounting elements to mount the base to a laser. The base has a front, middle and rear portions that are used to align the calibration assembly to the laser to cleave optical fibers with the laser. The front portion has a channel to receive the optical fibers, the middle portion has openings to confirm alignment of the laser; and the rear portion has a rear opening used to adjust the pitch and roll of the laser.

A unitary multi-fiber ferrule has micro-holes for optical fibers, an optical stop plane for the optical fibers, and a plurality of lenses disposed adjacent the front end, each of the plurality of lenses optically aligned with one of the micro-holes and exposed to air. Multiple rows of optical fibers and lenses may also be used in the unitary multi-fiber ferrule. The unitary multi-fiber ferrule requires less processing and equipment than other current optical ferrules.

A field-installable multi-fiber ferrule has two portions and one portion has optical fibers already secured therein. The second portion receives optical fibers to mate with the secured optical fibers. A tool is provided to assist in inserting the optical fibers into the multi-fiber ferrule by aligning and holding the optical fibers while they are secured in the multi-fiber ferrule.

A multi-fiber ferrule has openings for optical fibers, an integral fiber optic guide pin and an opening to receive a fiber optic guide pin. A plate is provided to align the optical fibers with the front face of the multi-fiber ferrule. A method for aligning the optical fibers with the front face of the multi-fiber ferrule is also provided.
摘要:
The method and apparatus of the present invention is capable of precisely determining the orientation of the axis of the guide pin hole defined by a multifiber ferrule. Since the axis of the guide pin hole has a direct relationship to the alignment of the optical fibers, the method and apparatus can also precisely determine the end face angle of the ferrule based upon the axis of the guide pin hole without reference to external features of the ferrule. A measurement pin is initially positioned in a guide pin hole such that a first end of the measurement pin is disposed proximate the end face of the ferrule. The reference plane defined by the first end of the measurement pin is then measured, such as by an interferometer. Based upon the reference plane and the predetermined angle between the reference plane and the axis of the guide pin hole, the method and apparatus can precisely determine the orientation of the axis of the guide pin hole. The method and apparatus can also measure a plane defined by at least a portion of the end face of the ferrule, such as a region of interest surrounding the optical fibers. Based upon an angular difference between the reference plane defined by the first end of the measurement pin and the plane defined by the end face of the ferrule, the method and apparatus can then precisely determine at least one end face angle.

A method and apparatus precisely determines the orientation of the axis of a guide pin hole defined by a multifiber ferrule, and therefrom, precisely determines an end face angle of the ferrule without reference to external features of the ferrule. A measurement pin is positioned in the guide pin hole with a first end disposed proximate the end face of the ferrule. A reference plane defined by the first end of the measurement pin is measured. The orientation of the axis of the guide pin hole is determined based upon the predetermined angle between the axis of the guide pin hole and the reference plane. A plane defined by at least a portion of the end face of the ferrule is then measured. The end face angle is precisely determined based upon the angular difference between the reference plane and the plane defined by the end face of the ferrule.

A snag-reducing member is disclosed for an optical fiber cable connector having a housing for insertion into a receptacle and a latch pivotably extending from the housing for securing the housing to the receptacle. The snag-reducing member includes a body configured to radially receive the optical fiber cable and to be axially slid along the optical fiber cable into engagement with the housing, and a trigger having a proximal end attached to the body and a distal end extending from the body. The distal end is movable toward and away from the body for engaging and pivoting the latch to selectably release the connector from the receptacle when the body is engaged with the housing. The distal end extends in a direction so as to reduce snagging of the latch when the optical fiber cable and connector are moved in a direction away from the receptacle. Duplex embodiments and related methods of assembling connectors are also disclosed.
