摘要: The present invention provides compositions suitable for use as biomarkers of vulnerable plaques as well as methods for the use of such compositions. In preferred embodiments, specific molecular imaging agents are provided that permit the selective identification of vulnerable plaques in coronary and other arteries using non-invasive imaging methods. Such specific molecular imaging agents comprise a binding partner linked to a detectable label that can be used in vivo to visualize vulnerable plaques. In certain preferred embodiments, the binding partner is a peptide that binds selectively to a component of a vulnerable plaque. In other preferred embodiments, the binding partner is an antibody that binds selectively to a component of a vulnerable plaque. In other preferred embodiments, the binding partner is a portion of a polypeptide displayed by a bacteriophage that binds selectively to a component of a vulnerable plaque. In preferred embodiments, the component of a vulnerable plaque is myeloperoxidase or a portion thereof.

摘要: The present invention is an in-vivo methodology for repairing a ruptured or fragmented segment of a pre-existing therapeutic appliance which has been previously surgically positioned or implanted within the body of a living human. The repair methodology provides for specific apparatus and techniques using a guiding catheter and deformable, thermoelastic shape-memory alloy rods in order to access and repair the flawed or failing therapeutic appliance in place. The repair methodology thus eliminates the need for surgical excision procedures and avoids the requirement for replacement substitute units in order to alleviate and solve the problem of having a flawed therapeutic appliance in-vivo.

摘要: A self-contained and hand-held power-assisted syringe is provided which is suitable for the controlled injection of fluid material during medical procedures such as coronary angiography procedures which utilize small-bore and small sized guide catheter systems. The present invention provides a greater degree of injection power on-demand than was previously possible in a portable and hand-held syringe; and it can deliver larger volumes of radiopaque contrast medium at greater pressures than was previously possible using a conventional manual syringe. The power assisted syringe, along with all components necessary for its effective use and operation, may be pre-packaged and steriled within a single container and then disposed of after use.

摘要: The present invention provides unique apparatus, systems and methods for an aligned closing and stabilized sealing of a vascular perforation in a chosen blood vessel after percutaneous puncture and completion of a catheterization procedure. The invention is an adaptation of the conventionally known modified Seldinger technique in which the means for guidance, closing and stabilized sealing are deployed and positioned during the manipulations performed during the percutaneous puncture of the blood vessel itself.
