    摘要: A color electroluminescent, EL, display device comprising an array of pixels (11) each comprising sub-pixels (1) of two or more colors (R, G, B). For at least one of the colors (R, G, B), the pixel (11) comprises a first sub-pixel (RL, GL, BL) comprising a first EL material and a second sub-pixel (Rc, Gc, Bc) comprising a second EL material. The first EL material is of higher lifetime than the second EL material; the second EL material has better color points and/or better color rendition properties than the first EL material. In some embodiments a pixel comprises two red sub-pixels (RL, Rc), two green subpixels (GL, Gc) and two blue sub-pixels (BL, Bc), one sub-pixel of each color (RL, GL, BL) comprising relatively high lifetime EL material and the other sub pixel of each color (Rc, Gc, Bc) comprising relatively good color points EL material. In other embodiments a pixel comprises two blue sub-pixels (BL, Bc) but only one red sub-pixel and one green sub-pixel.

    摘要: In a multiple-output digital to analog converter, digital input data (Dd) is converted into a plurality of analog output voltages (Voi) across associated loads (Li). A timing generator (TG) generates time periods (Ti1) in dependence on the digital input data (Dd). A buffer (B1) has an output (O1) to supply a waveform (WF1) to the loads (Li) via a coupling circuit (S1i). The coupling circuit (S1i) couples a certain load (Li) to the buffer output (B1) during an associated time period (Ti1). The output voltage (Voi) across the certain load (Li) is related to a value of the waveform (Wf1) at the end of the associated time period (Ti1) when the coupling circuit decouples the load (Li) from the buffer output (O1). The multiple-output digital to analog converter further comprises a plurality of dummy loads (Ldi), each one of the dummy loads (Ldi) is associated to a corresponding one of the loads (Li). The dummy loads (Ldi) are coupled to the buffer output (O1) when the corresponding load (Ldi) is decoupled from the buffer output (O1). A pre-setting circuit (B2, S2i) generates the voltages (Vdi) across the dummy loads (Ldi) so as to be substantially equal to the output voltages (Voi) across the associated loads (Li) occurring when the coupling circuit (S1i) decouples the load (Li) from the output buffer (B1).

    摘要: An active matrix electroluminescent display has means for interrupting the drive of current through the display element. Row driver circuitry for the display has a shift register and logic arrangement (50, 54) for generating the drive voltage for the interrupting means, and which includes a pulse having a duration which can be varied up to substantially the full field period less the address period. The signal or signals propagated through the shift register arrangement (50) control the pulse duration. This arrangement provides reduced driver complexity to allow control for the row by row addressing of the pixels with control of the overall light emission period of each row. The control enables a scrolling addressing scheme to be implemented.

    摘要: In an active matrix electroluminescent display, a plurality of rows of pixels are illuminated, defining at least two bands of rows separated by a non-illuminated band. The bands of rows of pixels scroll in the column direction over time, and at most 75% of the rows are illuminated at any point in time. This method is in essence a double bar scrolling method. By scrolling two bars, the required peak brightness is reduced as the effective overall duty cycle is increased. However, the period of illumination can still remain short, so that motion perception remains improved. The scrolling speed can be halved for the same frame rate or else the frame rate can be increased to reduce flicker.
