    摘要: A self-contained electrostatic precipitator module adapted to be inserted into and removed from a housing as a unitary assembly includes a slatted, endless belt defining a composite attractor electrode-collector electrode subassembly, a forced air system for cooling and cleaning electrode holder structures, a power supply for establishing the charging and precipitating fields, a drive motor and train and mounting system for moving the endless belt, and rotary brushes at a remote location for neutralizing and cleaning the belt. The belt slats are flat, rigid members of simplified design and are individually mounted to allow selective replacement of a local belt section. Insulating gaps of optimized configurations are provided around high-potential electrode holders to prevent electrical shorting or sparking. Increased capacity is readily obtainable by employing plural units arranged in parallel within a common housing.

    摘要: Electrostatic precipitating apparatus in which particles entrained in a gas stream are charged in an ionization zone established between one or more ionizer electrodes and a movable attractor electrode and collected, by reaction with a transverse precipitation field, in an adjacent downstream zone including a movable dielectric collection surface. The dielectric collection surface may be carried by the same conductive member constituting the attractor electrode. Electric fields that are non-attractive to the charged particles, and that have components directed against gas flow, are established in the vicinity of the ionization zone-collection zone interface, thus increasing collection efficiency by retarding downstream movement of the particles, including turbulence in the gas stream, and creating non-linear precipitation field conditions. A series of such collection zones or of additional ionization zones and associated collection zones may be spaced along the gas stream to further enhance precipitation efficiency and to reduce re-entrainment of particles in the gas stream. The ionizer and attractor electrodes and the dielectric collection surfaces are movable to a cleaning zone remote from the gas stream where collected particles are neutralized and removed.

    摘要: An apparatus and method for reproducing an image on a dielectric sheet, such as paper or the like, comprising the use of an electrogasdynamic generator as a spray gun for producing a space charge cloud of ionized ink in the vicinity of one side of the dielectric sheet whose other side has been provided with an electrostatic charge image produced through the use of a conventional xerographic plate and process, whereby an improved quality ink image is produced on the sheet by virtue of the tendency of electrogasdynamically produced particles to achieve a uniform charge distribution on the dielectric surface. Undesirable fringing effects are avoided and the process is speeded up over the conventional xerographic process by reducing the number of mechanical operations required, such as, eliminating the need for cleaning toner from the xerographic plate. The method may be adapted to produce either negative or positive images and for use with high-speed printing systems.

    摘要: Systems for effecting a conversion between the energies of a gas and electrical energy and employing at least two electrogasdynamic (EGD) devices each having ionizing electrodes and an output electrode for connection to an external circuit. Each EGD device is connected in series with the external circuit and the amount of electrical energy available for transfer to or from the circuit from each converter is periodically varied so that an alternating current potential is maintained at the output electrode during operation. Periodic variation is achieved by varying an electrical ionizing source for the ionizing electrodes, or by varying gas flow through each EGD device.

    摘要: An improved electrostatic precipitator device capable of significant size reduction having flat parallel plates consisting of an ionizing corona discharge portion as a unitary structure which is utilized to effectuate precipitation of entrained particles from an air stream onto the surface of a plurality of associated collection members, as an air stream containing entrained particles is cleaned in passing through the precipitator device. The ionizer discharge portion of the unitary structure comprises a plurality of substantially uniformly spaced apart sharp electrical conductive protrusions directed to alternate sides of the unitary structure; thereby forming a uniform ionization region with a parallel portion of the collector extending the full length of the ionizer. The remainder of each of the unitary structure functions as a passive electrode which cooperates with the remaining portion of the collector to form highly concentrated electrostatic fields therebetween for enhanced collection efficiency with minimum re-entrainment of the particles to be collected.

    摘要: An electrogasdynamic converter operating on a gaseous stream of the type including a flow channel having ionizing electrode means in an upstream portion to produce charges in the stream, and collector electrode means spaced downstream from the ionizing electrode means to neutralize the charges carried in the downstream direction by the flow. The converter is operated to establish in the intermediate section of the flow channel between the ionizing electrode means and the collector electrode a high resistance path at the boundary of the flow path for charges carried in the stream. The high resistance may be formed by a thin liquid or solid film at the flow path boundary, or by spaced conductive elements extending through a dielectric channel to be flush with the flow boundary and exposed to the stream. In the latter event, a thin resistive film may be deposited on the outside of the channel to have successive sections thereof connected between the conductive elements. A third alternative utilizes a flow channel constructed of a highly resistive conducting material.
