The invention is directed to a process for the production of uretdione group-containing compounds by dimerizing at least a part of the isocyanate groups of organic isocyanates in the presence of compounds containing phosphorus-nitrogen bonds as dimerization catalysts, characterized in that the reaction is carried out in the presence, as co-catalysts, of H-active organic compounds having a pKa-value of at least 6, which have at least one hydrogen atom bound to oxygen, sulphur or nitrogen.The invention also relates to the uretdione group-containing compounds obtained according to this process and to their use for the production of plastics materials according to the isocyanate-polyaddition process.

The present invention relates to thermally cross-linkable coating compositions which are liquid and stable in storage at room temperature and which contain combinations of dialkyl-malonate-blocked polyisocyanates and organic polyhydroxyl compounds as binders and, optionally, auxiliaries and additives, being characterized in that the binder comprises:(a) a polyisocyanate component containing dialkyl-malonate-blocked isocyanate groups and a content of blocked isocyanate groups, expressed as NCO, based on the weight of the polyisocyanate component excluding the weight of the blocking agent, of from about 3 to 33.6% by weight, comprising(aa) at least one dialkyl-malonate-blocked, optionally alkyl-substituted diisocyanato-diphenyl methane and/or(ab) at least one dialkyl-malonate-blocked NCO-prepolymer based on excess quantities of optionally alkyl-substituted diisocyanatodiphenyl methane and organic compounds containing at least two hydroxyl groups and(b) a polyol component having an average hydroxyl functionality of greater than 2 and a content of alcoholic hydroxyl groups of from about 1.5 to 8% by weight, comprising at least one polyester polyol in quantities corresponding to an equivalent ratio of blocked isocyanate groups to hydroxyl groups of from about 0.6:1 to 2:1.The present invention also relates to a process for the production of coatings by coating heat-resistant substrates of any type with these coating compositions and subsequently hardening the coating at about 90.degree. to 220.degree. The present invention relates to a process for the production of metal effect lacquerings having improved weather-resistance by the multilayered lacquering of various substrates, using a clear layer as top coat and a lacquer containing metal pigments to form the outer layer of the multilayered lacquering which is covered by the layer of clear lacquer, characterized in that the clear lacquer used is one the main binder of which is a two-component system consisting of:(a) a polyol component consisting essentially of polyester polyols having a low aromatic component content and optionally also polyacrylate polyols; and(b) a polyisocyanate component having biuret and/or isocyanurate groups, as well as aliphatically-bound isocyanate groups which may be blocked with isocyanate blocking agents. This invention discloses mixtures for use as binders for solvent-free lacquers which are liquid at room temperature, can be prepared in the presence of moisture and have good light stability and resistance to weather.The mixtures contain:(a) at least one organic polyisocyanate which contains aliphatically bound isocyanate groups;(b) at least one polyhydroxyl compound with a molecular weight of 200 to 2000 which is free from ether groups; and(c) 0-40 percent by weight, based on the total mixture of monohydric and/or polyhydric alcohols with a molecular weight below 200;the components of the mixture being used in such quantities that the NCO/OH ratio is between 0.8:1 and 1.2:1.
