    摘要: Systems and methods are disclosed for assessing electrode-tissue contact for tissue ablation. An exemplary electrode contact sensing system comprises an electrode housed within a distal portion of a catheter shaft. At least one electro-mechanical sensor is operatively associated with the electrode within the catheter shaft. The at least one electro-mechanical sensor is responsive to movement of the electrode by generating electrical signals corresponding to the amount of movement. The system may also include an output device electrically connected to the at least one electro-mechanical sensor. The output device receives the electrical signals for assessing a level of contact between the electrode and a tissue.

    摘要: An irrigated ablation catheter includes a tubular catheter body having an inner tubular member and an outer tubular member. The catheter body has a proximal portion and a distal portion. The catheter also includes an electrode extending from the distal portion of the catheter body, a flow distributor positioned at least partially within distal portion of the catheter body and at least partially overlapping the electrode, and a flow path extending through the catheter body and the flow distributor. The flow path is configured to provide cooling fluid to an external surface of the electrode.

    摘要: A passive system for accurately determining the location of a device positioned or implanted within a patient's body is disclosed. The system includes a detectable mechanism mounted at the tip of the device which is configured to generate a self-induced magnetic field, and a detector for detecting the magnetic field of the magnet. The detector is detached from the magnet. In a preferred form, the detectable mechanism is a direct current permanent magnet. Methods of using such a system to accurately determine the location of a device within a patient's body are also disclosed.

An irrigated ablation electrode assembly (10, 10′) includes a proximal member (18, 18′) having an outer surface (22), an inner lumen (26, 26′) and a proximal passageway (24). The proximal passageway (24) extends from the inner lumen (26, 26′) to the outer surface (22) of the proximal member (18, 18′). The assembly (10, 10′) further includes a distal member (20) having a distal end (30) and a distal passageway (28) extending from the inner lumen (26, 26′) through the distal member (20) to the distal end (30). Embodiments of the present invention include an irrigated catheter assembly (12) configured to direct irrigation fluid to target areas where coagulation is more likely to occur to, among other things, better minimize blood coagulation and associated problems.

    摘要: A catheter for anchoring an electrode in a coronary sinus includes an elongate catheter body adapted to be inserted into a coronary sinus and at least one electrode on the catheter body. The elongate catheter body also includes at least one anchor movable between an undeployed configuration and a deployed configuration. When the anchor is in the undeployed configuration, the catheter may be introduced into and removed from the coronary sinus. When the anchor is in the deployed configuration, the anchor engages a tissue surface of the coronary sinus to inhibit movement between the catheter body and the coronary sinus, preferably without completely occluding the coronary sinus. The anchor may be a section of the catheter body having an expandable axial cross-section, an expandable member mounted on the catheter body, one or more wire anchors, or a flexible section of the catheter body.

    摘要: The present invention relates to an irrigated ablation electrode assembly. The present invention further relates to an irrigated ablation electrode assembly that includes a substantially polygonal shaped electrode. The electrode assembly of the present invention includes a proximal member, also referred to as a proximal portion having an outer body portion including an outer distal end surface and an inner cavity within the outer body portion. The proximal member of the electrode assembly further includes at least one passageway for fluid. The passageway extends from the inner cavity of the proximal member to the outer distal end surface of the proximal member. The electrode assembly further includes a distal member, also referred to as a distal portion. The distal member is defined by a substantially polygonal shaped body. Irrigation fluid flows from the inner cavity of the proximal member through the passageway and out an orifice provided on the outer distal end surface of the proximal member. The fluid that exits out of the passageways flows substantially parallel to the body of the distal member, therein improving or optimizing the irrigation of the substantially polygonal shaped electrode.
