摘要： An image reading apparatus includes a document reading and conveying unit, a pressing plate capable of moving to a position to press a document against a reading surface and to a position withdrawn from the reading surface, and a fixed reader configured to read a document fixed on the reading surface by moving a close-coupled image sensor relative to the document. The document reading and conveying unit includes a controller configured to perform pickup initialization of returning a pickup roller to an initial position after the completion of conveying one or more documents and is supported by the pressure plate. The controller includes a first timer configured to measure an elapsed time from the completion of reading performed by the fixed reader. The controller performs the pickup initialization after a measurement value measured by the first timer exceeds a first time.

摘要： A sheet feeder has a feed cassette containing sheets to be supplied to an image forming unit in an image recording apparatus and able to be drawn out of the apparatus through a front portion of the apparatus, and another feed cassette able to be drawn out of the apparatus through a side portion. The feed cassette that can be drawn out through the side portion has a portion projecting outward from the side portion of the apparatus and located below a discharge tray for receiving sheets on which images are formed and which are discharged. This feed cassette can contain sheets having a size larger than the maximum size of recording sheets containable in the feed cassette drawn out through the front portion.

摘要： A contact-type image sensor having an adhesive elastic layer therein includes a protective member including a light transmitting area. An illumination device is provided for illuminating an original, bearing image information thereon, through the protective member. A photosensor device is provided for reading the image information, and imaging structure is provided for focusing light reflected from the original onto the photosensor device. Support structure is provided for integrally supporting the illumination device, the photosensor device, and the imaging structure. An elastic adhesive layer is provided on a contact surface between the protective member and the support structure. The elastic adhesive layer joins the protective member and the support structure.

The driving switching unit cuts off the transmission of the driving force to the transport member when the access cover is opened.
