Abstract:
A clamping device configured to handle large and fragile objects can include large jaws extended outside a smaller jaw support. The extended areas of the second jaw can be up to 4× of the jaw support, and can contain reinforced ridges configured so that a force applied from the second body portion to the second jaw spreads to the extended areas of the second jaw outside the second body portion, for example, to at least 80%. The clamping device can include an automatic locking mechanism for open and close the jaws from an operator far away from the clamping device.
Abstract:
A panel joiner system includes 2 sets of suction cups couple together through a linear guide to allow the sets of suction cups to move toward each other for joining panels along the edges. A movement mechanism is also coupled to the suction cups to convert a rotational movement to a linear movement of the suction cups. A surface alignment module is coupled to the linear guide to move between the suction cups for aligning the top surface of the panels. Compressible materials or ball bearings can be disposed between the section cups and the linear guide to allow the panel joiner to adjust the panel positions for joining.
Abstract:
A clamping device is used for joining panels or boards with highly cosmetic appearance at the visible joined surface. The clamping device can include mechanisms to support and move one panel relative to another panel in two directions perpendicular to the beveled edges of the panels. The clamping device can include a rotational mechanism to rotate one panel around a direction parallel to the beveled edge.
Abstract:
Heat induced antigen retrieval systems for biological specimens may include a sealable heating pressure chamber, a programmable process controller, a nonpareil operating element, and perhaps even a substantially user-disencumbering autonomous processing component of a plurality of biological samples perhaps using various user selected protocols, and the like.
Abstract:
A method, and a corresponding apparatus, implemented on a suitably programmed processor, selects an ideal computer to remove from a computer cluster observing a failure condition. The computer cluster includes multiple computers. The method includes the steps of recording, at each of the computers, health data for each of the computers, computing, at a health timeout, a first health score for each of the computers based on the health data, computing, at a fatal timeout, and based on the first health score, a second health score for each of the computers, and at each of the computers, selecting a computer having the highest health score for removal from the cluster.
Abstract:
An improved system and method for rendering massive-scale interactive visualizations. A first aspect of the invention relates to server-based rendering of visualizations. A second aspect of the invention relates to dynamic element-based image animation.
Abstract:
Sample disks are excised from a membrane by a cutting apparatus that includes a cutting tool terminating in a hollow cylinder with an exposed cutting edge, the tool slidably retained within a sleeve or otherwise slidably mounted to a mounting body, with a spiral cam in either the tool or the mounting body. A rider is included in the construction and arranged to engage the cam such that sliding movement of the cutting tool translates into rotational movement of the cylinder and its cutting edge.
Abstract:
This application discloses a novel process for the preparation of himbacine analogs useful as thrombin receptor antagonists. The process is based in part on the use of a base-promoted dynamic epimerization of a chiral nitro center. The chemistry taught herein can be exemplified by the following:

Abstract:
The present invention relates to catheters for selectively cooling or warming tissue within a patient's vasculature. The present invention utilizes novel heat exchanging devices, which reside inside the catheter body for selectively altering the temperature of fluid that flows through the catheter shaft. In addition, the present invention utilizes novel pumping devices, which reside within a patient's vasculature for withdrawing oxygenated blood into the catheter body where heat exchange occurs across a heat transfer interface for selective cooling or warming of the blood occurs. The present invention can be used in a multiplicity of medical disciplines where it is advantageous to selectively alter the temperature of tissue, including beating heart applications, as well as stopped heart medical interventions.
