In particular, the implantable tissue growth stimulator may be incorporated into an orthopaedic device such as a hip prosthesis. The implantable tissue growth stimulator may be used to stimulate bone growth.

    摘要: A surgical instrument for implanting a prosthetic member. The instrument includes an orientation sensor that detects an initial orientation of the prosthetic member and an implanting orientation of the prosthetic member. The instrument further includes a memory module and an input device that receives a user input to transfer the initial orientation detected by the orientation sensor into the memory module for storage. Furthermore, the instrument includes an orientation feedback device that selectively provides an orientation feedback signal to a user. Moreover, the instrument includes a controller that causes the orientation feedback device to provide the orientation feedback signal when the implanting orientation detected by the orientation sensor is substantially equal to the initial orientation stored in the memory module.

    摘要: An apparatus and method for interrogating and automatically identifying a radio-frequency tagged surgical instrument tray and its contents of RFID-tagged surgical instruments are disclosed. The surgical instrument tray and its contents come into contact with an RF signal transmitted by the RFID reader, and as a result, the RFID tags affixed on the instrument tray and the surgical instruments respond by transmitting back to the RFID reader data pertaining to the history of the surgical instruments. A data terminal, which is connected to the RFID reader, may contain data pertaining to the radio frequency tagged surgical instruments during packaging, and during the return of the surgical instrument trays to the packager, identifies the surgical instruments.

    摘要: A training apparatus, model, system, and method are disclosed that allows any trainee to train to perform surgeries in areas of the human body that include one or more nerves. The training model is configured to mimic one or more areas of the human anatomy in which the procedure is going to be performed that contains nerves by providing a realistic anatomical model of the area of interest. A neural element is positioned in the anatomical area of interest that is configured to behave like a real nerve. A neural monitoring system is utilized to ensure that while using specially designed surgical tools or devices during the procedure, the surgeon is trained to avoid taking actions that would adversely affect the functionality of the nerves located in this area after the surgery.
