The signal from the most sensitive sensor is delivered when the wheel speed is below the predetermined speed threshold. Above the speed threshold, however, the signal from a sensor arranged on a driven vehicle wheel is used as the vehicle speed signal. The circuit is especially suitable for anti-lock and traction slip control systems which supply speed signals which can also be evaluated for other vehicle control or regulating systems.

A brake system is presented wherein a pump receives the pressure fluid that is discharged out of the wheel brakes during a control action and supplies it into a high-pressure accumulator. Further, there is provision of a separating valve which closes the brake line during a brake slip control action. The separating valve is actuated mechanically, and namely by the accumulator piston of the high-pressure accumulator. The advantage thereof is that the force of the greatly biased accumulator spring is available for cracking the separating valve open. It is thus ensured in any case that the separating valve is re-opened after a slip-controlled braking operation and renewed braking of the vehicle is possible.

A process and apparatus for monitoring and controlling an anti-locking automotive brake system comprising a tandem master cylinder and an auxiliary pressure source, from which, in the event of anti-lock regulation, pressure fluid is supplied to the working chambers of the master cylinder. Auxiliary pressure regulation is performed with the aid of central valves and the auxiliary pressure source is turned on and off in response to the advance of the primary piston, a maximum distance being preset between the primary and the secondary piston. Once this space is exceeded, the central valve disposed in the primary piston, opens resulting in another advance of the primary piston and a switch-on of the auxiliary pressure source. If the primary piston after the auxiliary pressure source having been turned on, is not restored within the predetermined time interval, an error signal will be generated. If the way switch disposed on the primary piston fails to respond after a predetermined number of regulating cycles or pressure decreasing pulses, an error signal will also be generated and the anti-locking regulation will be turned off or the auxiliary pressure source switched on.

A brake system with slip control provided for vehicles with front-wheel or rear-wheel drive comprises two hydraulically isolated brake circuits (I, II) to which in each case the wheel brake (31 to 34) of one front wheel (VL, VR) and one rear wheel (HL, HR) is connected. By use of a pressure-retention valve (51, 52) which is inserted in each case into the line branch (49, 50) connecting the associated main line (53, 54) to the wheel brake (31, 33) of the driven axle (HL, HR), the brake force build-up at the driven axle (HL, HR) is delayed compared to the non-driven vehicle axle (VL, VR) during a braking action. Accordingly, brake force can be attained at both vehicle axles (VL, VR and HL, HR) in the presence of low road adherence values. In vehicles equipped with drum brakes at the rear axle, the effect desired can also be attained by arranging for specially adapted barke-shoe return springs instead of pressure-retention or differential-pressure valves.

The wheel brakes ( 31 to 34), through outlet valves (22, 23 and 35, 36, respectively), closed in de-energized condition, are in communication with a return line (37) also connected to which is the intake line (61) of the two pumps (21, 26).
