摘要: A user input is communicated to an application resident on a data processing system according to a code set which is adaptively selected in response to the application, the selected code set mapping to a respective set of corresponding user inputs, the selected code set optimizing a performance parameter for communicating between a user input device and the application. The selected code set may be selected from a stored plurality of code sets. Preferably, the selected code set minimizes energy expended in communicating codes from the user input device to the data processing system. According to one aspect, the application may first be identified, and then the selected code set may be selected according to the identified application. According to another aspect, a plurality of user inputs to the application may be accepted at the user input device and recorded, and the selected code set may be selected based on the recorded plurality of user inputs.

摘要: A microprocessor-controlled device with software files stored in non-volatile memory which can be easily modified by the user by reading or scanning a two-dimensional bar code symbol having program modification information encoded thereon. The symbol can be read by two-dimensional or one-dimensional laser or CCD based means. Depending on its size, either the entire file can be replaced, selected locations can be replaced, or selected relocatable object files can be linked at the target device in order to effect the program revision.

摘要: A socket assembly for releasably mating with an electrical connector plug utilizes a plurality of fixed leads, and optionally a moveable retainer frame. The fixed leads are in direct electrical communication with an electrical circuit, such as the modem portion of a computing device. At least a portion of each lead remains anchored in a position fixed relative to the electrical circuit and are directly connected to the circuit traces of the electrical circuit. The optional retainer frame is preferably movable between a storage position and a ready position. In the ready position, the retainer frame is adapted to receive and retain the connector plug in a mated position such that the contacts of the connector plug are brought into contact with the fixed leads. In other embodiments, the housing of the electrical circuit includes a socket cavity which is adapted to receive the connector plug. When the connector plug is moved into the mated position by pushing the bottom of the connector plug into the socket cavity, the contacts of the connector plug are brought into contact with the fixed leads.

摘要: A bar code reader has an integrated scanning component module which is mountable on a printed circuit board. In one embodiment, the module may include the digitizer/decoder electronics, enabling the module to be used with a generic PCB. In some embodiments, the module includes a high speed optical scanning arrangement having an optical element which extends longitudinally of a flexible member, secured at one end. In other embodiments, the invention extends to a hand-held optical scanner having a scanning assembly, detector and data transmission coupling all mounted to a common printed circuit board, preferably located within a manually-graspable handle. In yet a further embodiment, an abuse-detector or accelerometer is provided for determining when the device is exposed to deceleration above a predetermined limit, and optionally for automatically shutting down applications programs and for providing a black-box-record of a short time frame before the device was exposed to an unexpected shock. Preferably, the reader is shock protected by a thermo-plastic elastomer housing section. An outgoing light beam is directed at a non-orthogonal angle relative to the PCB.

摘要: An interface between a two-dimensional bar code scanner and a host digital decoder is provided through a 15-pin electronic connector, which transfers to the decoder an actuating signal either from a scanner trigger switch or from an external device. In response, the digital decoder provides the scanner with operating power. The scanner generates and relays a bar code signal and a scanning direction signal back to the digital decoder, which uses these signals to identify a bar code being scanned as a one-dimensional or two-dimensional code. If the bar code is determined to be a two-dimensional code, upon detection of laser pattern alignment with the label the digital decoder sends a scanning control signal to the scanner to control a laser pattern generated by the scanner.
