摘要: A stent delivery system, and methods of use, are provided in which a stent is constrained in a contracted delivery state with binding straps that are electrolytically erodible to deploy the stent. The binding straps are attached to a power source and each have a small electrically uninsulated reduced thickness portion. A second electrode wire is disposed adjacent to the uninsulated areas or separately electrically coupled to an exterior surface of the patient's body. When an electric current is applied, the uninsulated areas of the binding straps are electrolytically eroded and rupture, thereby allowing the stent to at least partially deploy.

摘要: A radially expandable surgical stent 10 is provided for implantation into a body lumen. The stent 10 includes a series of circumferential elements 20 circumscribing a central axis 4 of the stent 10 and axially spaced from each other by gaps 40. Each circumferential element 20 includes a wave-like series of bends 30. Each bend 30 has one side defining a trough 32 in and an opposite side defining a crest 36. The trough 32 is that side of the bend 30 most distant from adjacent circumferential elements 20. The crest 36 is that side of each bend 30 closest to adjacent circumferential elements 20. Axial elements 50 span each gap 40 with ends of each axial element 50 attaching to circumferential elements 20 at troughs 32. Some of the axial elements 50 are configured as tie bars 51 extending linearly axially between adjacent circumferential elements 20. Other axial elements 50 can be configured as double bend links 60 extending between adjacent circumferential elements 20. The double bend links 60 include a first curve 65 and a second curve 67 which can each have their radii of curvature adjusted to allow the double bend link 60 to be expanded or compressed and allowing the stent 10 to flex with the central axis 4 bending. The stent 10 can additionally include enhanced density markers 360 which increase the visibility of portions of the stent 10 when viewed with a medical imaging device.

摘要: The invention is methods and devices which a surgeon may use to stabilize the beating heart during a surgical procedure on the heart. Pursuant to the invention, a stabilizing device is introduced through an opening in the chest and brought into contact with the beating heart. By contacting the heart with the device and by exerting a stabilizing force on the device, the motion of the heart caused by the contraction of the heart muscles is effectively eliminated such that the heart is stabilized and the site of the surgery moves only minimally if at all. Typically, in separate steps, the surgeon contacts the heart with the stabilizing device, assesses the degree of movement of the anastomosis site, and exerts a force on the stabilizing device such that the contraction of the beating heart causes only minimal excess motion at the surgery site. By fixing the position of the stabilizing device in a configuration where the motion of the beating heart is effectively eliminated, the surgeon is able to stabilize the beating heart for the duration of the procedure. The stabilizing device may be attached to a rigid support or may be attached to a semi-rigid support which is rendered motionless mechanically, chemically, or by human intervention. In certain preferred embodiments, the stabilizing device is affixed to a semi-rigid support which is caused to become rigid, by any of a variety of techniques, such that the position of the stabilizing device becomes fixed by the support, and the heart remains substantially motionless for the duration of the procedure.

摘要: An apparatus and method for forming or shaping an intraluminal stent for low profile delivery into a body lumen. A nickel titanium intraluminal stent has a tubular member formed from a plurality of coils which are bent to form lobe-shaped members, like a cloverleaf, to reduce the profile of the tubular member and form an involuted spring stent. The involuted spring stent will transform to the implanted diameter of the tubular member when exposed to body heat. The involuted spring stent can be attached to a tubular graft, or coated with a polymeric material to form an involuted spring graft, both of which can be used to repair aortic aneurysms.
