Abstract:
An aircraft wing assembly, comprising: a fixed wing portion; a first and second flight control surfaces; a first and second actuators operatively coupled to the first and second flight control surfaces for moving respective first and second flight control surfaces with respect to the fixed wing portion; a control system operatively coupled to the first and second actuators for controlling movement of the first and second flight control surfaces; and a third actuator selectively engaged with the second flight control surface for engaging and moving the second flight control surface out of a path of movement of the first flight control surface only in the event of a failure in the second actuator or its control, so as to avoid direct contact between the first and second flight control surfaces.
Abstract:
A system and computer program product for differentiating reward programs that use the same identity holder. This differentiation allows different businesses to offer their own tailored rewards program while the consumer has the convenience of using a single identity holder. Moreover, the system and computer program product provide for integrating proximity and affinity into multi-business rewards programs. Finally, the system and computer program product provide for members of a consumer membership organization to receive rewards based on their membership, thus allowing the organization to receive financial incentives based on encouraging their members to shop at certain businesses.
Abstract:
The invention provides a chemical-mechanical polishing composition containing zirconia particles, a modifying agent that adheres to the zirconia particles, an organic acid, and water, as well as a method of using such a polishing composition to polish substrates and a method of using a polishing composition comprising zirconia particles, an organic acid, an oxidizing agent, and water to polishing substrates containing metal and oxide-based dielectric materials.
Abstract:
A distributed implantable neurostimulation system. One or more electrode arrays each have at least one electrode configured to be positioned at a desired implant location within the body. An implantable control unit is configured to selectively direct stimulus and/or telemetry instructions and power to each electrode of each array. A shared bus extends to each of the plurality of electrode arrays, the bus interconnecting each array with the implantable control unit. There is at least one electrode cell associated with each electrode array. The electrode cell obtains electrical power and command signals from the shared bus, and controls operation of each electrode associated with that electrode cell. The bus is connected to the control unit and/or the electrode cell by docking contacts of the bus to form electrical contact with contacts of the control unit and/or electrode cell.
Abstract:
An implantable apparatus, such as a inner ear prosthetic hearing implant, and a method for delivering neuron firing threshold-reducing stimuli to a neural network of an implantee are provided. The apparatus comprises a stimulator device that generates stimulation signals, and an electrode array that receives the stimulation signals and delivers the stimuli to the neural network of the implantee in response to the signals. The stimuli delivered to the implantee facilitates and/or controls the production and/or release of naturally occurring agents into the neural network to reduce the firing thresholds of neurons.
Abstract:
N-hydroxy-3-[4-[[[2-(2-methyl-1H-indol-3-yl)ethyl]amino]methyl]phenyl]-2E-2-propenamide and starting materials therefore are prepared by new synthetic methods.
Abstract:
Methods and systems are provided for determining whether signals to be applied by a bone conduction device would be masked by signals arriving at the good ear of a single sided deaf patient. The bone conduction device then applies stimulation for frequency components of the sound received by the bone conduction device that would not be masked by sound received by the patient's good ear. In applying the stimulation, the bone conduction device may apply a gain to compensate for the head shadow effect. This gain may be determined by inverting at least a portion of a curve for the head shadow effect.
Abstract:
Apparatus and method for at least partially fitting a medical implant system to a recipient is described. The medical implant system is configured to provide electrical stimulation and at least one other mode of stimulation to the recipient. These apparatuses and methods comprise executing a genetic algorithm to select a set of parameter values for the medical implant system. This genetic algorithm may comprise generating successive generations of child populations and then providing a determined set of parameter values to the medical implant system for use in providing stimulation to the recipient.
Abstract:
AT ski binding adaptor for alpine ski touring and downhill, including a floating heel lock assembly and multifunctional rotatable locking arms. Ski bindings are mounted on an adaptor mounting plate, channel or beam assembly that pivots at the toe. The heel lock mechanism “floats” on a rail or rails to accommodate ski flex, and includes a multi-position climbing bar or heel riser. The floating heelblock and locking mechanism are interconvertible for different ski modes: in fixed heel-mode—the locking arms act to firmly secure the heel to the ski for aggressive downhill conditions or riding style, and in free heel mode—the locking arms may be configured to support touring and climbing configurations. The ski binding adaptor with floating heel lock mechanism is optionally compatible with a range of alpine ski touring and downhill bindings.
Abstract:
There is provided an aerofoil comprising an inboard section, a tip section moveable between a flying configuration and a parked configuration, a hinge shaft mounted at a compound angle in the inboard section, a fixed gear mounted concentrically on the hinge shaft and a drive gear coupled to the tip section and configured to mesh with the fixed gear, wherein a rotation of the drive gear against the fixed gear causes the tip section to rotate about the hinge shaft between the flying configuration and the parked configuration.
