    摘要: A ground electrode has one end portion fixed to a metal housing, a bent portion provided at an intermediate portion thereof, and the other end portion positioned in a confronting relationship with a center electrode to form a spark discharge gap. The ground electrode contains either Ni or Fe as a main component and at least one additive selected from the group consisting of Cr and Al. A cross-sectional area S of the ground electrode is not less than 2 mm2 and not greater than 3 mm2. An average value D of crystal grain diameters in a thickness direction is not less than 100 μm at least at the bent portion.

    摘要: In a spark plug, a chip made of Ir alloy is partly buried into and bonded by laser beam welding on the ground electrode made of Ni base alloy. A molten portion is extended from the inside of the ground electrode through a junction of the chip and the electrode into the inside of the chip, but not formed on the spark discharge surface of the chip. Where A is a maximum length from the end of the junction on the side of the center electrode to the end of the molten portion on the junction on the side opposite to the center electrode, within the length A, B is a length of both ends of the molten portion, t is a length of the chip perpendicularly extending from the junction and d is a sum of the length t and a length of the molten portion protruding from the junction into the ground electrode, a ratio of A/B is not less than 0.5 and a ratio of d/t is not less than 2, but more than 4. When an end surface of the chip is the spark discharge surface, laser beam welding is conducted from the ground electrode toward a side of the other end surface or from the longitudinal side surface of the chip toward the ground electrode.

    摘要: A spark plug for an internal combustion engine is provided which includes a metal shell, a porcelain insulator, a center electrode, a main ground electrode, and auxiliary ground electrodes. Each of the auxiliary ground electrodes has an end face facing the insulator to define an auxiliary spark gap. The end face includes an increasing-radial distance surface which is located at a distance from a longitudinal center line of the spark plug in a radial direction thereof which increases as approaching to the metal shell. The insulator nose has a wall thickness T meeting a relation of 0.3 mm≦T≦0.7 mm. This avoids a great local increase in electrical field strength on the auxiliary ground electrode to minimize excessive discharge within the auxiliary spark gap to enhance carbon fouling resistance and durability of the spark plug.

The oxidation resistant alloy-made portion occupies at least a top portion of the center electrode exposed outside a porcelain insulator. The thermal conductive metal-made portion is exposed to a portion of an outer periphery of the center electrode which faces a insulator mount portion of a spark-mounting shell through the porcelain insulator in a direction perpendicular to an axial direction of the center electrode, thereby facilitating transfer or dispersal of heat from the center electrode to the mounting shell through the porcelain insulator to ensure a desired heat range.

The protrusion extends toward the center electrode to form a discharge gap (50) between the protrusion and the tip of the center electrode. Both of the tip of the center electrode and the protrusion of the earth electrode are 2.3 [mm] or less in each diameter (D1, D2), thus an amount of energy required for ignition being limited to 17 [mJ] or less.

    摘要: A gas sensor comprises a gas sensing element, an insulator, and a housing. The gas sensor element senses information indicative of a concentration of a specific gas to be measured and has a longitudinal direction and a radial direction perpendicular to the longitudinal direction. In the insulator, the gas sensing element is fixedly inserted. The housing has a hollow in which the insulator with the gas sensing element is inserted from an opening of hollow and has a wall portion positioned to form the opening in the longitudinal direction. The wall portion includes a caulked portion bent inward in the radial direction and has a thickness in the radial direction between an inner and an outer wall surfaces. The thickness and at least one of the inner and the outer wall surface change continuously in the longitudinal direction. In other word, the caulked portion has the holding means is accompanied by traveling a caulked force imparted by the caulked portion so as to insert the insulator into the hollow of the housing in a matter that a reaction force against the caulked force is distributed uniformly to an overall of the wall portion.
