摘要: A display device performs various types of adjustment by canceling luminance dispersion caused by a light source at the time of optical illumination from the light source and correctly sets a gamma correction characteristic even when optical power from the light source varies or is abnormal. In luminance measurement of a display device, an adjustment method includes measuring transmitted light using a sensor and a reference sensor, calculating correction values on the basis of fluctuation values of reference data derived from measured data by the sensor and the reference data by the reference sensor, correcting the measured data, and thereafter converting the data into gradation values.

摘要: An image display device incorporating a specialized phase expansion circuit, a rotation circuit, a sampling device and unique controlling circuitry. The phase expansion circuit includes a plurality of trail buffers or sample holder circuits for receiving a serially applied train of pixel image signals, expanding or extending the assertion cycle time and generating a corresponding plurality of expanded image signal trains in parallel. Preferably, one combination of expanded pixel image signals corresponding to specific position of pixels arranged in matrix in one train is different from another combination of expanded pixel image signals. The rotational circuit includes a plurality of selecting circuits for receiving the manifold trains of expanded pixel image signals generated by the phase expansion circuit. Each selecting circuit preferably selects one of these trains of expanded pixel image signals and generates a corresponding second train of expanded pixel image signals in parallel according to variable combinations specified by the control circuit. The sampling device receives these second trains of expanded pixel image signals, reconstructs and generates image signal for driving pixels. The control circuitry directs the phase expansion circuit to periodically change the pixel column ordering combinations used to generate the first set of expanded image signal trains. As the column ordering combinations vary, the preferred control circuitry may correspondingly instruct the rotation to reorder or decode the received image signal trains into an expanded signal train in a form suitable for sampling image reconstruction and display. Therefore, even if there are variations of characteristics of individual components such as transistors in the phase expansion circuit and such variation affects uniform brightness of each pixel, these differences in characteristics can be dissipated through periodic resequencing. Consequently, a uniform high-resolution image can be displayed and perceived in the display area.

摘要: When a video signal is inputted to a projector (10) through a video input terminal, a luminance peak value of an image of the video signal is detected by an image-analyzing circuit (61) to be outputted to a CPU (71). A gain-adjusting circuit (63) adjusts a luminance signal in the video signal based on a command from the CPU (71). The CPU (71) determines a gain adjustment amount based on the luminance peak value of the image obtained by the image-analyzing circuit (61) and outputs the result to the gain-adjusting circuit (63). For instance, when the luminance peak value (Ip) of the image is 50% of the upper limit (Imax) thereof, a gain-adjusting amount AG is doubled. In this case, an illuminating light volume of a light valve (44a) has to be reduced to 50%, which is achieved by light-attenuation by a light-source lamp (21) and an open/close light shield (23).

摘要: A projector capable of setting and storing usage environment data peculiar to each user in a selectable manner is provided, thereby facilitating reduction of trouble and time of resetting when reusing. The liquid crystal projector samples and reproduces image signals input from a computer in accordance with display pixels. This liquid crystal projector selectably stores usage environment data peculiar to each user, selects the stored usage environment data the next time the liquid crystal projector is used, and reproduces image signal input based on the selected usage environment data.

摘要: Methods and apparatus for using more effectively the front side area of a rear projection display as a screen positioning area disclosed. Almost all of the p-polarized light beams emitted from an image projector are reflected by a polarizing selection element, and almost all of the reflected light beams are converted into s-polarized light beams by a polarizing conversion mirror as the light beams are reflected towards a screen. Of the s-polarized light beams produced as the light beams are reflected by the polarizing conversion mirror, those that are not incident upon the polarizing selection element strike the screen in order to form an image. On the other hand, those that are incident upon the polarizing selection element pass through the polarizing selection element and strike the screen in order to form an image thereon.

摘要: A projection-type display apparatus in which the entry of light rays to the back side of liquid crystal light valves from dichroic prism that composes optical system light synthesizer is prevented. To this end, a projection display according to the present invention preferably includes a color synthesizer for combining colored and modulated light beams, comprising: a square column dichroic prism composed of four triangle prisms having equal refractive index together whose cross sections are right isosceles triangles such that three light valves are located adjacent to three exterior peripheral surfaces of dichroic prism to receive colored and modulated light beams therefrom and; a filter for absorbing light with a specified wavelength range, leaked from surface of dichroic prism at the opposite side of incident light surface and directed to liquid crystal light valve, the filter being located between liquid crystal light valves and surface of dichroic prism. As for construction of the dichroic prism itself, specifically, of the four aforementioned triangular prisms, the first triangular prism and the aforementioned third triangular prism are mutually affixed in a condition in which there is a first step difference in the vertical direction. The first exposed side is formed on one edge of the affixed side of the first triangular prism. Similarly, the second triangular prism and the fourth triangular prism are attached to each other such that there is a second step difference on the same edge, and a second exposed side is formed on one edge of the affixed surface of the second triangular prism. Further, the first and the third triangular prisms and the second and the fourth triangular prisms are attached, with a step difference between them, in such a way that the aforementioned first exposed side and the aforementioned second exposed side are located on the edges facing the same direction; and a third exposed surface that is orthogonal to the aforementioned first and second exposed surfaces is formed between the aforementioned first triangular prism and the aforementioned second triangular prism.

摘要: A projection-type video display in which the entire input video signal is first digitally corrected through digital gamma correction. Then, a subset of the corrected video signal is corrected again through analogue correction techniques. In particular this portion of the digitally corrected video signal corresponds to the subject where slopes of applied voltage-transmissivity characteristic curve (V-T curve) of liquid crystal changes relatively rapidly. The result is a more accurate gamma correction which is also less expensive than conventional, purely digital gamma correction systems. Another feature is the inclusion of three liquid crystal light valves, each having have a plurality of pixels arranged in the matrix and identical shift registers in such a way that pixels of one scanning line are driven selectively and sequentially from the same horizontal direction according to a given set of video signals, a memory where at least video signals for pixels of one scanning line are written and stored, a first drive controller for outputting video signals of one scanning line from memory in the order in which the video signals were written and supplying the video signals to pixels of a scanning line in at least one of light valves, and a second drive controller for outputting video signals of one scanning line from memory in a reverse order in which video signals were written thereto for supplying another light valve. Also disclosed is recognition unit for recognizing different types of input video signal format systems and a write controller for controlling the way of writing input video signals of each scanning line into pixels of horizontal scanning lines in the light valves based on different type of input video signal format system.
