A transgenic mollusk which can express a desired foreign gene, and a method for producing the same are disclosed. The mollusk is a transgenic mollusk into which a desired foreign gene (excluding a gene giving resistance to a virus) is introduced, which expresses the foreign gene. This transgenic mollusk can be produced by microinjecting into gonad of male and/or female of mollusk a recombinant vector into which a desired foreign gene to be introduced or a nucleic acid containing the foreign gene is inserted; crossing the male and female to produce individuals of first generation; and selecting therefrom (an) individual(s) which express(es) the desired gene.
Abstract:
A three-dimensional cell culture carrier of the present invention includes a fibrous structure having a three-dimensional space for cell culture. The fibrous structure is formed of a plurality of intertangled fibers. Each of the fibers used in the fibrous structure is made of a material having a visible light transmittance of 40% or more (preferably 50% or more) when it is formed into a shape having a thickness of 3 mm. Examples of such fibers include glass fibers. The fiber has an aspect ratio of 1 or more, and a fiber diameter of 100 μm to 700 μm.

A transgenic animal having diabetes, which is more suitable as a model of human than rodents, and its preparation method are disclosed. The method for preparing the transgenic pig comprises introducing a nucleic acid into a fertilized egg, clonal egg or embryo, the nucleic acid comprising a foreign gene which contains a region encoding dimerization domain of hepatocyte nuclear factor-1α, but does not encode a normal hepatocyte nuclear factor-1α, and a promoter located upstream of the foreign gene, which promoter is capable of expressing the foreign gene in a pig cell; and developing an individual from the fertilized egg, clonal egg or embryo.

Methods for detecting target DNA's in a sample on the basis of oscillation frequency using nucleic acid sequences immobilized to the surface of an electrode of an elastic wave element, and DNA sensors for conducting the methods are described. These methods provide for highly sensitive detection of target DNA's in a sample.
