摘要： A method and system for forecasting telephony traffic trends on a network of a given service provider includes storing local number portability (LNP) record portions in a LNP database. Each LNP record portion contains information regarding a corresponding telephone number having been ported between service providers. First and second images of the LNP database are obtained at first and second times. The first and second images are indicative of all the LNP record portions stored in the LNP database at the first and second times. The images are compared to determine migration of the ported telephone numbers between the service providers over a time period between the first and second times. Movement of telephone traffic on the network of the given service provider after the second time is then forecasted as a function of the determined migration of the ported telephone numbers between the service providers.

A system that incorporates teachings of the present disclosure may include, for example, a network management system (NMS) 100 having a memory 104, and a controller 102. The controller is programmed to retrieve (206) topology information relating to a selected power loop originating at a CO and terminating at an SAI, identify (207) environment conditions to be applied to the selected power loop, and determine (208, 218) from the topology information and the environment conditions whether the power loop can carry sufficient energy without exceeding a temperature rating.

A disclosed method of monitoring a communication network periodically collects data from a plurality of network elements within the communication network. The disclosed method analyzes the collected data in accordance with a rule that corresponds to a characteristic of performance or capacity of the plurality of network elements to form performance or capacity data representative of a user experience of the communication network. The disclosed method then presents the performance or capacity data via a web browser using a plurality of view levels and types.
