The present invention relates to an asymmetric porous polytetrafluoroethylene membrane comprising a dense skin layer and a continuously foamed porous layer, (1) the dense skin layer having a surface roughness Ra of 20 to 165 nm; (2) the dense skin layer having a contact angle for water of 120 to 135°; (3) the porous layer having a maximum pore diameter of 0.03 to 1.0 μm; and (4) the membrane having a total porosity of 20 to 70%. The asymmetric porous PTFE membrane has an ability to separate each liquid component from a liquid-liquid homogeneous mixture in addition to known properties such as water permeability resistance, gas permeability, sealing property and electric property, wherein change of these properties over time is small.

The present invention discloses a method for characterizing a membrane in a wet condition using a positron annihilation spectrometer and a sample holder thereof. Positron annihilation lifetime spectroscopy (PALS) has been know to be an invaluable tool for investigating local free-volume hole properties in various materials. Accompanying with the method and sample holder disclosed by the invention, PAS and PALS can measure the properties of various materials, such as free volume and layer structures both in the dry and wet states.

The present invention discloses a method for modificating a fluoropolymer. First, a fluoropolymer is provided, and then a hydrogen plasma treatment is performed on the fluoropolymer, so that C—H group is introduced to the surface of the fluoropolymer to form an intermediate. Next, an ozone treatment is performed on the intermediate, wherein the C—H group serves as ozone accessible site to form peroxide, and a first modified fluoropolymer is then formed. Finally, a grafting polymerization is initiated from the peroxide of the first modified fluoropolymer in the presence of a composition comprising at least one functional monomer, so as to form a second modified fluoropolymer. Furthermore, this invention also discloses methods for fabricating metal-clad laminates.
