摘要: Fluid diffusion layers with favorable mechanical and electrical properties are prepared for fuel cell electrodes by impregnating a porous carbonaceous web with a carbonizable polymer having pyrrolidone functionality and then carbonizing the pyrrolidone polymer. The polymer having pyrrolidone functionality is stabilized against vaporization by use of an oxidization step prior to carbonization. The fluid diffusion layers are particularly suitable for use as gas diffusion layers in solid polymer electrolyte fuel cells.

摘要: The invention provides a fuel cell metallic separator, wherein the metallic plate's edges include a resin portion comprising the communication ports. The resin portion around the communication ports is shaped so as to be capable of interlocking with a fuel cell stack component adjacently located in a fuel cell system. The invention also provides a resin portion capable of press fitting or thermal bonding with adjacent a fuel cell stack components.

摘要: A method and apparatus are described for imaging wet samples with an Environmental Scanning Electron Microscope (ESEM). In particular, a carrier gas is humidified such that the water vapor in the carrier gas in the sample chamber of the ESEM has a partial pressure equal to the saturated vapor pressure of water. Thus, the sample can be imaged without observing any evaporation or condensation thereon. Both the carrier gas and the water vapor may act as the imaging gas within the ESEM. The apparatus is an imaging gas delivery system for the ESEM wherein the carrier gas may be appropriately humidified.
