    摘要: An automatic decompression valve to facilitate starting of an internal combustion engine operable to relieve compression pressure during cranking and maintain full compression during operation of the engine is disclosed. The valve has an inlet in communication with the interior of the cylinder of the engine and an outlet. A valving element is movable to selectively block the inlet in response to an increase in pressure in the cylinder. A magnetic biasing element is provided for urging the valving element towards a valve open position. When the engine is cranked, compression pressure is released through the valve until the engine starts, whereupon the pressure in the cylinder acts on the valving element to close the valve. An auxiliary friction producing element is operatively associated with the valving element to provide a friction sufficient to hold the valving element in a valve closed position against the magnetic force tending to open the valve during operation of the engine but insufficient to hold the valving element in a valve closed position against the magnetic force when the engine is off.

    摘要: A method and apparatus for preventing injury to an operator of a chain saw of the type having a frame, a frame handle, a control handle, a guide bar, a cutting chain and power means mounted on the frame and operably connected to the cutting chain for driving the cutting chain on the guide bar. The apparatus includes a first lever pivotally mounted adjacent to the frame handle and a second lever pivotally mounted adjacent to the control handle. A self-locking brake is biased toward actuation and upon actuation is operably sufficient to instantly stop movement of the cutting chain and stall out the chain saw power means. Actuation of the self-locking brake is controlled by engaging the first and second levers against the frame and control handles respectively. This engagement is translated through a linkage system to overcome the aforementioned bias and disengage the self-locking brake. Upon release of either the first or second levers, or both, from engagement with the frame or control handles respectively the brake will be immediately actuated. The method includes the steps of controlling the actuation of a self-locking brake and actuating the brake in the event an operator''s hand slips from either the frame handle or the control handle. If such an event occurs the method includes braking the cutting chain to an immediate stop and thus minimizing the possibility of injury to the operator.

    摘要: A voltage regulator and method are utilized in an automatic throttle control for an internal combustion engine driven inductor alternator. An SCR in series with the load is biased to conduct on successive positive half-cycles of a rectified a.c. input voltage. The SCR conductive bias is opposed responsively to the load voltage so that the average load voltage is a function of the number of complete pulses of the source in which the SCR conducts during a given time period. A hold-off circuit is provided to prevent SCR conduction during welding.

    摘要: An elongated bushing consisting of a polymer such as tetrafluoroethylene may be formed in the configuration of a sleeve. The bushing may be fit over an injection nozzle mounted within a bore formed within the cylinder head of an internal combustion engine. The bushing may be axially compressed between an internal shoulder formed within the bore of the cylinder head and a built-up portion on the nozzle assembly. The axial compression acting on the bushing causes the bushing to have radial expansion so as to completely fill the annular space formed between the nozzle and the internal wall of the bore defining a cavity within the cylinder head. An annular disk-like monel member may be fit over the nozzle and supported adjacent the hot axial end of the bushing to insulate the surface thereof against the effect of hot cylinder gases.

    摘要: A gas turbine engine of the integrated type having a single rotor with all working blades subjected to alternate periods of cooling and heating. The rotor is mounted for rotation in a casing and performs the dual functions of compressing primary air and driving a turbine shaft in response to the expansion of combustion gases. The rotor includes two annular channels for receiving the working blades therein in an equally spaced manner. The annular channels and blades define a dual symmetrical series of pockets. The casing includes flush ports which are formed generally adjacent the inlet and exhaust ports. The flush ports cooperate with the inlet ports to purge carry-over gases remaining in the rotor pockets after exhaustion. The flushed pockets cooperate with surrounding annular channels defined by the casing to perform reentry compression on the primary air introduced into the casing annular channels and flushed pockets through inlet ports in the casing. Approximately mid-way between the inlet and exhaust ports, the casing annular channels lead into a combustion chamber into which the compressed primary air is directed. In the combustion chamber, the compressed primary air is mixed with fuel and ignited to form the products of combustion. The products of combustion expand into the casing annular channels and flushed pockets in the direction of the exhaust ports to effect the turbine shaft drive. Sealing blocks are provided in the casing annular channels to properly direct the compressed primary air into the combustion chamber and the expanding exhaust gases out the exhaust ports.

    摘要: A battery is charged in a very short period of time, for example less than 15 minutes, by applying a charging current that is in excess of the nominal 1-hour rate of the battery with discharge pulses sandwiched between charge pulses, with or without a rest period between the end of the charge pulse and the beginning of a discharge pulse and the end of the discharge pulse and the beginning of a charge pulse. The discharge pulse has a peak value in excess of the nominal 1-hour rate of the battery and the pulse has a short period, for example 1 to 4 microseconds, which time may be related to the time associated with the electrochemical characteristics and construction of the cell or cells of the battery being charged. The frequency of the discharge pulses is increased as the terminal voltage and charge of the battery increases. The charging at the high rate is terminated or converted to a trickle charge when the terminal voltage of the battery exceeds a selected voltage level associated with the desired level of charge in the battery. The disclosure relates to both the method of rapid charge and apparatus for rapid charging.

Generally, such cut-off circuits are designed for passage of low current only and would be damaged if connected to the battery by the accidental closing of the starter switch when the motor-generator is operating as a generator. To prevent excessive current flow through the cut -off circuit, the cut-off circuit is disconnected from the battery and the motor-generator when the starter switch for the system is closed.
