摘要: A mixed waveform configuration for wireless communications including a first portion that is modulated according to a single-carrier modulation scheme and a second portion that is modulated according to a multi-carrier modulation scheme. The waveform is specified so that a channel impulse response (CIR) estimate obtainable from the first portion is reusable for acquisition of the second portion. The first portion includes a preamble and header and the second portion typically incorporates the payload.

摘要: A Baseband receiver including a CIR estimate block, gain, phase and timing loops, a CMF, a single-carrier processor and a multi-carrier processor. The CIR estimate block generates an impulse response signal based on a receive signal that is a single-carrier signal or a single-carrier segment of a mixed carrier signal. The single-carrier segment has a spectrum that approximates a multi-carrier spectrum. The gain, phase and timing loops adjust gain, phase, frequency and timing to provide an adjusted receive signal. The CMF filters the adjusted receive signal according to the impulse response signal. The single-carrier processor processes the adjusted and filtered receive signal to resolve a single-carrier segment of a mixed carrier signal. The single-carrier processor detects a mixed carrier mode indication in a single-carrier segment and asserts a start indication. The multi-carrier processor processes a multi-carrier segment of a mixed carrier signal in response to assertion of the start indication.

One system embodiment, among others, comprises a logic configured to cyclically advance, or perform the periodic equivalent of the same, one or more sections of an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) packet relative to the OFDM packet to be transmitted on a first transmit antenna, the packet having the one or more cyclically advanced sections to be transmitted on a second transmit antenna, the duration of the cyclic advance having a duration less than a guard interval.

摘要: A dual packet configuration for wireless communications including a first portion that is modulated according to a serial modulation and a second portion that is modulated according to a parallel modulation. The serial modulation may be DSSS whereas the parallel modulation may be OFDM. The first portion may include a header, which may further include an OFDM mode bit and a length field indicating the duration the second portion. The first portion may be in accordance with 802.11b to enable dual mode devices to coexist and communicate in the same area as standard 802.11b devices. The dual mode devices can communicate at different or higher data rates without interruption from the 802.11b devices. The packet configuration may include an OFDM signal symbol which further includes a data rate section and a data count section. In this manner, data rates the same as or similar to the 802.11a data rates may be specified between dual mode devices. The first and second portions may be based on the same or different clock fundamentals. For OFDM, the number of subcarriers, pilot tones and guard interval samples may be modified independently or in combination to achieve various embodiments. Also, data subcarriers may be discarded and replaced with pilot tones for transmission. The receiver regenerates the discarded data based on received data, such as using ECC techniques.
