Abstract:
A rewrite determining unit of a hard disk apparatus acquires a servo signal that includes an offtrack amount corresponding to each servo frame from a position information memory, and determines whether a write fault has occurred based on the servo signal. If a write fault has occurred, the rewrite determining unit determines a rewrite sector count, and a write controller controls a hard disk controller so that rewriting is performed to correspond to the rewrite sector count determined by the rewrite determining unit.
Abstract:
A storage medium includes tracks extending in a circumferential direction, user data areas formed on the tracks for storing user data, and servo frames corresponding to the user data areas and extending in a radial direction for storing servo data. Data correcting areas corresponding to the servo frames and extending in the radial direction adjacent the servo frames are provided for storing correcting data for correcting positional deviation of a read/write head resulting from an error in the servo data stored in the servo frames. The correcting data stored in the data correcting areas on the same track are separated by at least one correcting data area.
Abstract:
According to an aspect of an embodiment, a disc apparatus includes a medium being capable of storing data and including a plurality of sets of servo information, each set of the servo information having identification information, a head for writing data into and reading data from the medium, an actuator for supporting the head and a controller for controlling the actuator in reference to selected one of the sets of the servo information on the basis of the associated identification information so as to move the head to a target position of the medium.
Abstract:
When a head is subjected to external vibration while a controller is controlling the head according to a positioning-oriented controller characteristic, the positioning-oriented controller characteristic are changed to a vibration-reducing controller characteristic. Moreover, when the external vibration stop while the controller is controlling the head according to the vibration-reducing controller characteristic, the vibration-reducing controller characteristic are changed to the positioning-oriented controller characteristic.

Abstract:
A magnetic disk apparatus includes a magnetic disk with normal and double servo sectors arranged alternately. If a servo interruption period corresponding to adjacent first servo sectors is a first servo interruption period, then a second servo interruption period that is a servo interruption period corresponding to adjacent first servo sector and second servo sector is equal to or less than half of the first servo interruption period.
Abstract:
A storage device receives and holds a storage medium that is subjected to first servo writing processing for writing servo information, a Gray code of which is offset, from an inner cylinder or an outer cylinder to a predetermined cylinder and, after the first servo writing processing, subjected to second servo writing processing for writing servo information from an opposite direction to the predetermined cylinder and in which Gray codes are written to be offset not to overlap in the first or second servo writing processing and the pieces of servo information having different mark patterns are written in the first servo writing processing and the second servo writing processing. The storage device acquires cylinder information and mark patterns from the servo information written in the held storage medium and controls a position of a head based on the acquired cylinder information and mark patterns.
Abstract:
The present invention has been made to provide a control apparatus, a storage apparatus, and a head control method capable of preventing a use of a correction value that has improperly been read out.A control apparatus according to the present invention uses a correction value for head position written in a recording medium to control head position. The apparatus comprises: an allowable range acquisition section that acquires a correction value allowable range which is a previously set allowable range of a correction value; and a head position control section that controls head position using a read out correction value in the case where the correction value that has been read out from the recording medium falls within the correction value allowable range acquired by the allowable range acquisition section.
Abstract:
This invention relates to a head position control method for a disk device that uses a disk medium whose tracks have been formatted externally, and a disk device that effectively uses the range of motion of an actuator. In a disk device that has a disk medium, a head, an actuator, a control circuit, there is a conversion mechanism that sets a data area in the writing range of the disk that corresponds to the range of motion of the actuator, and converts a logical address to a physical address in the data area. This invention makes it possible to set a storage capacity that makes maximum use of the range of motion of the actuator for any device, even when there is a position offset in the range of motion of the actuator.
