Anchoring of a circuit-switched initiated session is useful when the session is transferred to a packet-switched network. Accordingly, a dynamic anchoring technique is used that relies on the mobile device to determine when, during on ongoing session, a handoff condition exists. The mobile device then sends a trigger signal that initiates the anchoring process.

摘要： The disclosure is directed to a mobile communication device that is capable of accessing different types of networks such as a circuit-switched network and a packet-switched network. While communicating over the packet-switched network, the device negotiates a sleep interval that is longer than the ordinary interval available using the packet-switched network. In this manner, the device wakes less frequently and thereby conservers power. A buffering system is included so that data directed towards the device while it is asleep may be buffered for later delivery when the device awakens.

摘要： Methods and apparatus for determining the quality of service of a network are disclosed. A disclosed methodology for determining quality of service for a network includes determining at least two metrics reflective of network parameters in at least two different protocol layers of the communication network. The metrics are then compared with respective threshold values, and quality of service for the network is determined based on the comparison of the metrics with the respective threshold values. Corresponding apparatus executing the methodology are also disclosed.

The database may be configured to receive a plurality of parameters to be used for operation of the encoder module. The database may be further configured to store the plurality of parameters and to provide the plurality of parameters to the encoder module. The encoder module includes an encoder configured to be initialized based on the plurality of parameters from the database. When invoked, the encoder may rely on the database to initialize rather than performing measurements on the current signal that is to be encoded. In one aspect, the apparatus may be an access terminal that can seamlessly switch between different domains, different networks, different base stations, and different access points.

The mobile device registers a public ID with a first IP address over a first access network and also registers the same public ID with a different IP address over a second access network. Additional registrations and IP addresses may occur as well. Of particular benefit is that the different registrations are active during at least some concurrent period of time. This allows a user of the mobile device to have improved continuity of service, select preferred access methods, and receive different data services simultaneously.
