    摘要: A process of preparing a concentrate which is useful as a thickener for aqueous compositions is provided. The process comprises obtaining a solution of an associative thickener compound in an organic solvent capable of forming a low boiling azeotrope with water. The solution is essentially free of water at this point and is at a temperature above the boiling point of said low boiling azeotrope. Water is added to said solution and an azeotrope of water and said organic solvent is distilled. The rate of addition of water is sufficient to replace said azeotrope with water, but is insufficient to cause a second phase to form in the resulting mixture of said solution and said water. The process yields a concentrate of an associative thickener in water, which concentrate is essentially free of volatile organic solvents.

    摘要: Latexes are thickened by compounds of the formula ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 is an aliphatic, substituted aliphatic, aromatic, or substituted aromatic radical having a valence of from 2 to 8; each of B.sub.1 -B.sub.8 is independently an ester, amide, amine, ether, sulfide, disulfide, thiocarbamate, urea, thiourea, urethane, sulfate, phosphate, carbonyl, methylene, thioamide, carbonate, or imide linkage; each of X.sup.1 -X.sup.8 is independently --A.sub.1 --R.sup.2 --A.sub.2 -- or --A.sub.1 -- wherein each of A.sub.1 and A.sub.2 is independently an ester, amide, amine, ether, sulfide, disulfide, urethane, thiocarbamate, urea, thiourea, sulfate, phosphate, carbonyl, methylene, thioamide, carbonate, or imide linkage and R.sup.2 is a divalent aliphatic, substituted aliphatic, aromatic, or substituted aromatic radical with the proviso that only one of B.sub.1 -B.sub.8 is urethane and that when one of B.sub.1 -B.sub.8 is urethane, one of A.sub.1 and A.sub.2 is not urethane; each of d, g, j, m, p, s, v, y is independently 0 or 1, each of c, f, i, l, o, r, u, x is independently any integer or non-integer from 0 to about 200; each of J, K, L, M, N, P, Q, S is 0 or 1; each of e, h, k, n, q, t, w, z is independently any integer or non-integer from 0 to about 200; each of R.sup.3 -R.sup.10 is independently an aliphatic, substituted aliphatic, aromatic, or substituted aromatic radical having from 1 to about 50 carbon atoms; each of AG and AO is independently an ethyleneoxy, 1,2-propyleneoxy, 1,2-butyleneoxy unit or combinations thereof.

    摘要: Polythiols prepared by the reaction of hydrogen sulfide or organic dithiols with polyglycidyl substituted amines have been found to be outstanding curing agents for epoxy resins. Epoxy resins cured with these polythiols are characterized by not only improved gel times, but also improved cure rates, better heat resistance and greater resistance to absorption of water.A useful polythiol is the reaction product of N,N,N',N'-tetraglycidyl-m-xylylenediamine with hydrogen sulfide.

    摘要: A method of preparing an inorganic pigment dispersion useful in the preparation of latex paints is provided. The method comprises dispersing an inorganic pigment in an aqueous medium further comprised of a dispersing polymer, said aqueous medium being essentially free of volatile organic solvents. The dispersing polymer is derived from monomers consisting essentially of an ethylenically unsaturated aromatic monomer having an unsubstituted ethylenic group, an ethylenically unsaturated aromatic monomer having an alkyl-substituted ethylenic group, and an ethylenically unsaturated acid monomer. The amount of the ethylenically unsaturated acid monomer is sufficient to permit the dispersing polymer to associate with an inorganic pigment in an aqueous medium in a manner which disperses the inorganic pigment in the aqueous medium to form a stable aqueous dispersion of said inorganic pigment. The total amount of the ethylenically unsaturated aromatic monomers is sufficient to reduce the water sensitivity of a dried coating of a latex paint comprised of said stable aqueous dispersion of said inorganic pigment. Use of the inorganic pigment dispersions to prepare latex paints, and latex paints resulting from such use, are also provided.
