Skin surface electrodes are positioned at predetermined peripheral surface stimulation sites on the skin surface using a variety of neural imaging techniques. A pulsatile electrical current is generated at the stimulation sites through a variety of standard electrical stimulation devices. Stimulation of the peripheral surface stimulation sites translates to electrical stimulation of a specific area of the brain.

    摘要: An electrical stimulation device is combined with a biologic to increase osteogenesis (i.e., bone healing or bone formation). The electrical stimulation is osteoblastic in that it produces new bone cells and or increases the activity of the existing cells, either osteoblasts or osteocytes. The preferred biologic decreases osteoclastic activity, which is the remodeling of bone usually by destroying the bone. Thus, osteogenesis is maximized by decreasing osteoclastic activity, while at the same time increasing osteoblastic activity. Osteogenesis can also be maximized by combining electrical stimulation with a BMP. Though BMPs are generally considered to increase osteoblastic activity, certain BMPs may have an additive effect to the use of electrical stimulation.

    摘要: A multi-functional portable electro-medical device provides interferential current stimulation to promote bone growth. Two electrical signals are applied to a target area, each electrical signal being formed by a set of two electrode pads. A beat frequency is created at the location the signals intersect with each other. The beat frequency is the difference between the frequencies of the two signals and has an amplitude that is additive and greater than either signal alone. The depth of the interferential signal is increased by increasing the carrier frequency of the signals. The direction of the interferential signal shifts toward the signal having the lower amplitude. The electrical stimulation is used in combination with biologics to further increase bone growth.

    摘要: A stimulator and a method for the treatment of intractable pain syndromes by electrical stimulation of the spinal cord is disclosed in which implantable electrodes positioned around a targeted area of the spinal cord transmit an interferential current that has a base medium frequency alternating current between 500 Hz-20 KHz. A digital signal processor generates a sine-wave-like waveform from a pulse generator which after further processing is used to generate at least two circuits for use in producing the interferential current. An effective area of stimulation is controlled by the quantity of electrodes, positioning of the electrodes and electrode cross pattern orientation. Amplitude modulation of electrical circuits created at the electrode placements also augments the effective area of stimulation. The stimulator and method reduce accommodation of the body to the electrical stimulation and provide deeper penetration of the resultant signal.
