摘要: An apparatus for filtering water has an interface and a filtration/purification canister removably mountable thereon. Connecting the canister to the interface automatically opens a check valve in the interface to permit water to flow from the interface into and through the canister, and then back to and through the interface to an outlet port. Disconnecting the canister from the interface automatically closes the check valve, stopping the flow of water. An end cap may be substituted for the canister to permit fluid to flow through the interface when the canister is not mounted on the interface. The outlet port may be directly connected to an appliance that uses water, to eliminate possible contamination that may occur when water is brought indirectly form the outlet port to the appliance instead. A flapper valve is provided in the canister to prevent back flow of fluid from the inlet port of the canister when the canister is not mounted on the interface. The flapper valve also is provided with an actuating means to automatically open the flapper valve when the canister is mounted on the interface, which permits fluid to be drained from the canister when the fluid distribution system is being drained without disconnecting the canister from the interface.

摘要: Invention is directed to a method of metallurgically bonding a layer of a first material, such as gold, to the surface of a second material, such as copper, by the use of the driving force of the energy from a pulsed laser. The method comprises the steps of selecting a thin polymeric film, where said polymer is characterized by a high optical coefficient of absorption at the wavelength of said laser, and applying to said polymeric film a thin layer of said first material for bonding to the second material. The second material is placed in close proximity to the thin layer of the first material. Intermediate the laser and the target a rotating optical scanner is provided to intercept the beam of the laser prior to directing the focused beam thereof toward the polymeric film. The repetition rate of the laser is synchronized with the rotating optical scanner to cause the focused beam of the laser to move across said polymeric film at a velocity less than the velocity of sound through the material. As a result thereof, the polymeric film is explosively evaporated causing a build up of pressure driving the first material toward the second material, whereby a moving contact zone is developed therebetween to drive surface contaminants and oxides from the second material.

摘要: A faucet with control mechanism for passing water through the faucet or for shutting the water off, which comprises ceramic discs having mating long-wearing highly polished faces that provide a water seal when the discs are in closed position, and have openings therein which provide a water passageway when the discs are in open position for axial flow, wherein the ceramic discs themselves form the passageway or pressure vessel which contains the flow and permits the use of a side-operated handle which attaches to a controller inside the faucet which is open to the atmosphere. A lower body portion has a threaded stem with a pair of opposed flat portions for admitting a split mounting washer without having to thread the washer on the threaded stem all the way from the bottom of the stem.

摘要: This invention is directed to a method for producing a smooth and continuous pressure bonded layer of a material such as gold or other precious metal, to a substrate, such as a metal substrate, through the driving force of a pulsed laser. The method comprises the steps of selecting a laser transparent substrate, applying thereto a thin polymeric film, where said polymer is characterized by a high optical coefficient of absorption to the wavelength of said laser. Preferably, such coefficient is at least 2.times.10.sup.4 cm.sup.-1. To the polymeric film, a thin layer or film of the material, such as gold is applied. Thereafter, the laser transparent substrate, containing the dual layers is placed in close proximity to the substrate or workpiece upon which such material is to be deposited. To this assembly, a pulsed laser is directed through the transparent substrate toward the polymeric film and material layer, whereby the laser energy is absorbed by the polymeric causing heating and vaporization thereof over a controlled depth of such polymer film. The vaporization provides the necessary pressure to blow-off the remaining polymer film and propel the material layer onto the substrate or workpiece. The resulting pressure bonded layer, i.e. gold or other precious metal, is smooth and continuous.

摘要: An apparatus for filtering and/or purifying water preferably comprises a canister having filtration chamber formed therein and a matrix mounted in the filtration chamber for filtering and/or purifying water that passes through it. Shock absorbers preferably are provided for guarding against damage to the matrix if the apparatus is dropped. Preferably, the apparatus is provided with an inlet port to the filtration chamber, a first outlet port from the filtration chamber, and a second outlet port from the filtration chamber. Water may be pumped into the filtration chamber from the inlet port to wash away dirt and debris that may build up in the filtration chamber and then exit the filtration chamber with the dirt and debris via the second outlet port when open, thereby accomplishing removal of dirt and debris from the filtration chamber without having to backwash the apparatus for filtering and/or purifying water.
