摘要: A gas turbine engine having a ramburner is disclosed. The ramburner is disposed downstream of a gas turbine engine combustor and receives an engine exhaust flow from the gas turbine engine combustor. The ramburner also accepts a bypass air. Fuel is injected into the ramburner and a combustion reaction is auto-initiated based upon local gas temperatures. No mechanical flame holders need be used. A slidable valve may be used to vary the amount of bypass air into the ramburner. A movable cowl and a plug nozzle form an exit flow path of the gas turbine engine. The movable cowl can be positioned to vary a throat area and exit area of the gas turbine engine based upon the operation of the ramburner, which may be influenced by the amount of bypass air entering the ramburner.

摘要: A turbofan gas turbine engine is provided having a unique power off-take shaft and gear system. Other gas turbine engine types are also contemplated herein. Two power off-takes are provided, one each for the low pressure spool and high pressure spool. The power off-takes extend across a core flow path of the turbofan engine between the low and high pressure shafts to a fan frame of the turbofan. A drive gear is provided near the front end of the high pressure shaft, and another drive gear is provided on the low pressure shaft near the drive gear for the high pressure shaft. Both gears are located in a sump of the gas turbine engine. The power off-take shafts are coupled to the drive gears. Two power devices are coupled to the power off-take shafts and are located in the fan frame. The power devices can be electric generators or motors.

摘要: An adaptive cycle gas turbine engine is disclosed having a number of features. A fan arrangement is provided having counter-rotating fan stages, one fan stage is operable to be clutched and decoupled from the other stage. A high pressure compressor bypass is also provided. A clutch is provided to at least partially drive an intermediate pressure compressor with a high pressure turbine when the high pressure compressor is bypassed. A partial bypass of the high pressure turbine may be provided.

摘要: A system includes a gas turbine engine having a shroud and a rotor with one or more blades. The rotor rotates within the shroud to pressurize a fluid during operation of the engine. An electromagnetic actuator is also included that is operable to move the shroud relative to the rotor to adjust clearance between the shroud and blades. In addition, a controller is included in this system to determine a desired amount of clearance in accordance with an operating mode of the engine. The controller generates an actuation signal to change the clearance in correspondence with the desired amount. The electromagnetic actuator responds to the actuation signal to provide the desired amount of clearance.

摘要: A latch for releasably maintaining a terminal block in an installed position in a panel aperture includes a U-shaped frame, guides on the terminal block at a leading edge thereof integral with the distal ends of the parallel arms of the frame supporting the latter on the terminal block in cantilever spring fashion and defining a lead-in surface in longitudinal profile, and a latch arm supported on the frame between the support arms in cantilever spring fashion including a ramp at its distal end extending from above the frame to inboard of the lead-in surface. As the terminal block approaches the installed position, the guides facilitate final movement thereto while the relationship between the ramp and the lead-in surface insures that the edge of the aperture will engage the latch arm only on the ramp thereby to prevent misengagement between the latch arm and the panel.

摘要: An adaptive fan system for a variable cycle turbofan engine having at least one turbine, includes a shaft structured to receive mechanical power from a turbine in the variable cycle turbofan engine and a first fan stage that is coupled directly to the shaft and is driven directly by the shaft. A transmission system is coupled to the shaft and a second fan stage is coupled to the shaft via the transmission system and is driven by the shaft via the transmission system. The transmission system is structured to selectively vary a speed between high and low speeds at which power is supplied from the shaft to the second fan stage relative to at least one of the shaft and the first fan stage, wherein the first fan stage and the second fan stage are configured to rotate in the same direction and at the same high speed to increase the mechanical power of the turbine.
