    摘要: A dermabrasion handpiece adapted for use to abrade the skin of a patient includes a housing extending along an axis between a proximal end and a distal end. Portions of the housing define a hole at the distal end with an abrasion element disposed in the housing in proximity to the hole. The housing is adapted for connection to a vacuum source to pull a portion of the skin through the hole and to move the skin portion into contact with the abrasion element. Movement of the abrader relative to the skin abrades tissue from the skin portion extending through the hole. The abrader can be provided in the form of a roller or blade moveable relative to the housing to abrade the skin. The abrasion element can be selected from a series of elements each having different abrasion characteristics and can be mounted in either the cap or the base of the housing.

    摘要: Microdermabrasion and suction massage apparatus are included in a single unit and alternatively connectable through a mode switch to a source of vacuum. The microdermabrasion section of the unit includes a crystal pick up station operating with a venturi effect to draw crystals through a hole into an air stream. The size of the hole is variable to control crystal density. A bleed valve is provided to control crystal velocity without controlling crystal density, while a bypass valve is provided to control crystal density without controlling crystal velocity. In an associated method, a microdermabrasion procedure is performed on the skin of a patient at an operative site. The mode switch is operated to activate the suction massage apparatus within the unit. This step is followed by performing a suction massage procedure at the operative site in order to promote healing of the abraded skin. The unit can be back flushed by connecting various portions of the unit to a pressurized output of the source of vacuum.

    摘要: An evacuation system is provided for removing smoke generated during a surgical procedure performed in a surgical room. The evacuation system includes a pre-filter assembly and a replaceable filter cartridge module disposed in the surgical room to permit replacement of used filter cartridge modules with new filter cartridge modules by personnel within the surgical room. A vacuum generator is disposed outside of the surgical room and includes a vacuum pump for establishing an air flow through the replaceable filter cartridge module. The pre-filter assembly includes an elongate flexible suction hose that is adapted for manipulation into position adjacent the medical procedure. A mechanical connection mechanism enables pre-filter assemblies to be easily replaced between each surgical procedure. An accumulated filter usage circuit calculates a quantity of filter capacity available and generates a filter loading signal based on the available capacity. The filter usage is calculated by adjusting usage counter in proportion to the speed of a vacuum motor and pump mechanism.

    摘要: The disclosed air filtration system filters both entering and exiting air. A primary structural element of the air filtration system is the unitary helmet member, which fits over the user's head. The unitary helmet member includes both a front aperture near the user's forehead and a rear aperture near the upper rear portion of the user's head. The unitary helmet member is blow-molded and therefore simple in construction. An interior channel connects the front aperture to the rear aperture, and a fan located over the rear aperture circulates air between these two apertures. A hood filter and a face shield fit over the unitary helmet member. The hood filter filters air passing through the rear aperture, and further filters air passing through a rear portion of the hood filter. Only the single fan is needed to draw air into the hood filter and remove air from the hood filter. The fan is placed over the rear aperture, thus distributing weight on the upper rear portion of the user's head to reduce stress and fatigue of the user. A secondary filter for added performance may be placed under the hood filter or over the fan inlet surface. A middle aperture located on the unitary helmet member between the front and rear apertures provides for a venting function to allow warm air to pass to the top of the user's head before exiting through the hood filter.

    摘要: A surgical gown is adapted to be operatively disposed to substantially cover a surgeon wearing a ventilator having a waist-mounted power unit, a head-mounted manifold structure, and at least one tube extending therebetween. The gown includes a head section, a waist section, and a shoulder section appropriately configured to cover analogous portions of the surgeon's body. A ventilator section, disposed between the head section and the waist section when the gown is operatively disposed on the surgeon, defines tube channel to receive the tube of the ventilator. This ventilator section forms an enlargement which facilitates movement of the head of the surgeon without substantial restriction by the head section of the gown. An interior tie gathers a front section of the gown around the neck of the surgeon to isolate movement between the head section and shoulder section. The front section of the gown is covered with a plastic laminate to render the gown impermeable to fluids emanating from the front of the surgeon.
